Recommended Posts

Has anyone had to complete six-month dr supervised diet and if they have how long did it actually take my doctors telling me it's seven appointments over 180 days

That's what I had to do. Some plans have different requirements, just make sure you have your plan documents and work with your doctor to make sure you understand exactly what is required.

I did a six month program. My medical group has a weight loss program that I did my six months with my seven appt with the doctor. It takes the whole 6 months and then I had an exit appt to begin my authorization to see a surgeon

Just finishing my 6 months. I am scheduled for surgery July 10th. I still have to meet with the surgeon and get cardiac clearance and egd. Getting excited!

Mine was 4 visits with the dietitian over 4 month period....and proof of my weight over the past two years. Met those requirements and I have been approved and set for June 17th. See the surgeon the 4th for my final visit with him. Yup, I am getting excited too! And a bit scared. Guess that is normal.

I just finish my 6 month journey as well and have my date for July 3rd. I started my 6 months in December 2013. I had 6 visits with surgeon, 1 with nut, and 2 with psych (one for test and another for results of test) There was an endoscopy, a pulmonary test, EKG, and labs that I had to do. Hubby, who is going thru the process with me, had to have a stress test for cardiac clearance. It will go A LOT faster than you expect. I remember thinking back in December and January that it felt like the whole process was taking forever, but it gives you time to mentally prepare and start working on the habits that you will need for post-surgery. (No straws, slower eating with smaller bites, etc)

I suppose when I look back on this process it will seem like it went fast but right now, waiting for my surgery on June 17th has been painfully slow. I was approved some time ago but my surgery date was set out 6 weeks from then. Reason being the doctor was going on vacation... The nerve of him to have a life outside of surgery! :-)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
