June 9th Sleeve - Looking for friends!

Recommended Posts

Telling people - that's touchy for me.

There is a very very small part of me thinks that the surgery is a cop-out and I should be able to do it on my own. But I am and honest person so I don't think I could keep it secret. Plus my husband has already told people and my close circle of friends know (2 of which had a VSG)

I chose to eat dinner tonight on my day 1. I'm at my dads and he had neighbors over. He over cooked and I didn't want to have to explain myself to strangers. so I think eating at a bridal shower is fine. Eat your shake before and barely eat there.

I think my dr does 14 days liquids (milk ok, I do 2%) is to prep you for the after too. I think maybe the better adjusted you are the less you have to stress about post surgery..some people aren't required to do liquids pre sx.

So how is everyone telling the friends/family they don't see very often? Or are you not? It's just a weird subject to bring up, but I don't want friends to be upset that I didn't tell them. I think my parents are slightly embarrassed - they love me, but it's even harder for them to let people know about the surgery. I feel like I need a list of who knows so I can avoid the super awkwardness the next time I see them! Any thoughts are appreciated!

I tell everyone, I am not at all shy about it. As far as my pre op diet, I have to start on 5/31 10 days of 5 shakes made with skim milk and Carnation no sugar added Breakfast drinks, I can have sugar free Jello, and popsicles, broth, and also 200-300 calories of fruits and veggies, they gave me a list with serving sizes and calories. He seems to be more light on the diet than some docs.

My dr.s rules for my 10 day pre-op diet is as many Protein Shakes as I want, I like the muscle milk pro series 40g Protein, and I can have plain chicken or turkey as well as sugar fee Popsicles and Jello as well as clear broth --- so what did I do today, on my first day, had some chips and a cookie. Tsk Tsk. I was visiting my husband's uncle and aunt and they are in their 90s and it was easier to eat what they offered than explain the surgery. I'm not happy about it but I'm not ready to tell many people about the surgery, mostly in fear of feeling that I need to justify my actions for it to be accepted, when I don't feel like I have to. Tomorrow is another day and I'll do better!!!

The people that I am close to I just told them. The others I haven't and don't plan to because I live so far away. Plus this is for me and health not them. ????

I'm using premier shakes during the say while I'm at. Work. I have both the Unjury and chike variety packs. I will use them at supper time. I plan to mix them with low fat milk. I have sugar free Popsicles and sugar free Jello if I'm craving something cold or sweet.

First day pre-op stats:

43 yrs old

5'5 in

228.2

Good luck to everyone as we go through this together

I am telling very few people! My immediate family and a few close friends. I am trying to keep the girls at work in the dark, but I know they will wonder where I am for 4 weeks! I really don't know why I am hiding it. Im not ashamed of it, but I just don't want to deal with the questions before the surgery.

You are off work for 4 weeks? Just curious why? I am under the impression that there is little down time. Am I wrong??

Just tell people you are watching what you are eating...that's my plan.

Hello all... I am scheduled to get 'sleeved' on June 9th as well... and that also happens to be my 36th birthday! im not sure if that is a good or bad thing, none the less i am looking forward to getting this thing done! I am 6'6 currently 430lbs (as of 3 weeks ago) and have been on a 'optifast' Protein Shake and bar diet only since last monday (5/19). 7 servings and nothing but sugar free Jello, crystal lite, and Water for the past week has been difficult at times and at times not so hard. This past weekend was hard with all the cookouts but i made it through! I'm ready to get this over with as i am sure most of you are as well! good luck to all those riding this train to a new body!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
