So, I've been reading posts talking about carb intake and how we should be following a low carb lifestyle (which I agree with) but I'm just wondering how many carbs do you typically consume in a day, what's recommended? Is this something you track on a daily basis like you do your calories?

I personally haven't counted or tracked this, I don't eat bread, rice, Pasta, etc.so I guess in my mind that was tracking it:-) Just wondering how closely everyone monitors this.

Thanks for your input!

I don't really track (except in fitness pal-but thats more what i eat for the day) but I don't "count" my carbs for the day. I have some crackers with lunch and maybe a little bit at dinner. Hasn't had an impact on weight loss for me.

I try to concentrate on healthier choices….protein first always…and VARIETY….after all it is the spice of life…lol :D

For the first time in forever I don't feel like Im on a diet so Im with you @@enjoythetime i don't really focus on counting and tracking it!…and we've done okay! ^_^

Can't really vouch for post band, but I'm a long time low carber and my goal was always 20-30 after subtracting fiber/sugar alcohols (aka net carbs). that was being very strict, tho. Most of my carbs would come from vegetables or Quest bars :)

Since being banded I've never tracked carbs.

I can eat anything in moderation except rice or apple skins.... and no carbonated beverages.

I don't track carbs but I try to avoid them as much as possible. Rarely do I eat Pasta or sliced bread. I'll have a couple of Oroweat flatbreads a week and also some brown rice. But, I'm a sucker for fruit. I love watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew, apples, blueberries. Those I struggle with.

In the beginning I tracked everything...carbs, calories, measured food portions....and it only added to my frustration(s)

As I got my fills and approached the Green Zone, it was liberating to put all that behind me...forever....

My approach is this...since the band handles my hunger/appetite, and the amount of food i can eat at any on time, then it is up to me not to waste that small opportunity on junk...so all I need to do on my part is choose the best, healthiest foods available at the time....

Couple that with foods I no longer eat, such as rice, breads, red meat, etc etc...all the foods that are notoriously dangerous to the band.

It's a new lifestyle for me, not a diet...I eat small, but eat wisely...and stay active....the same lifestyle normal weight people live, but I needed surgery to get there.....and I don't care.

I should also say, I have been on so many diets over my life time, I quess I have it in my head as to what are good and bad foods, etc.....I can see how some people may have to through that learning phase.

I low carb but I don't actually count them. I don't eat anything that has over 5 net carbs for a meal. I don't eat many meals in a day. I do eat SF Snacks like chocolates and ice pops. I just don't eat a lot of food in general anymore so I don't feel that it's necessary to track per say. If I get thrown out of ketosis I'll probably worry about it then

I use MFP to track nearly every day. Mostly so to be sure I'm getting enough Protein since I tend to "under eat" because I'm in the green zone. (Crazy, but true). I have always been a little OCD about tracking food, calories, protein, etc, which probably comes from my 20 years on weight watchers. I'm glad I track, because it holds me accountable and keeps me from over indulging on sliders. I was told by a Dr that healthy adults should just try to keep your carbs and protein even every day. If you eat 90 grams of protein, try to stick to around 90 grams (or less) of carbs. I'm not saying that theory is 100% truth, but I have been keeping that in mind since I was banded and it seems to be working for me.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
