Just wondering what other people's pre-op diets are like I am scheduled for surgery June 27 I have to go on a Liquid Protein diet starting yesterday 6 weeks. It just seems long to me the Dr said it is to get the fat around the liver but I have lost 100lbs since September so I thought I would be good by now, anyone else have to do this?

That does seem tough, but you'll be ready for the phase 1 post-op diet. That scares me.

My doctor started me on 3 Protein shakes a day since I started seeing him and that has been in December. I did have to lower my Protein diet because I went into stage 4 renal disease. I was down to 2 shakes a day and one small meal for about 2 months until I was back into stage 3 renal disease. I am having my surgery on May 22 so 2 days before surgery I start a clear liquid died. It has been hard and I have cheated on it cause I would get so starved that I would eat some chicken breast which my doctor told me I could.

I am on a 4 week pre-op diet. I get 5-6 liquid/semi soft foods a day. All are dehydrated and are to be rehydrated with Water. *gag* it's so awful. I've been on it 6 days now and have cheated a few times, but still have lost 8 lbs. I honestly rather not eat than eat the diet food. Thank goodness for SF Jello and Popsicles.

Wow 6 weeks sounds extreme. I'm sure you can handle it though. Are you allowed any solids at all?

I'm supposed to start my preop diet on Wednesday. 2 shakes (premier protein) and one small meal of lean meat and veggies. I will be following it for two and a half weeks.

Not so far but my dietitian says I may able to work some veggies in. I have a pre op course next week we shall see. I hope so! But what ever it takes.

banffbuck I started off on the whey Protein Drink and then someone in our support group said to try the Premier Protein drink. It is 100% better tasting you can buy them at Sam's club or I have seen them at Kroger. I would check out your local wal-mart and your local stores to see if they carry them.

They also have them at costco and Safeway stores. I live in Texas and we don't have Safeway, but we have Randall's which is part of Safeway and they're carried there. That being said, it's a much better deal to purchase them at Costco in bulk.

My dietician said that it's the shake they recommend to their patients so you might want to ask your doctor.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
