I just ran my second 5K event a whopping 6 minutes faster than my first (about 4 weeks ago). I'm ecstatic! 39:50, and I could have kept going.

My next event is a 4mi race in November. Must sign up for something else before then!

Participating on my first 5K this morning, eeek! I will be mostly fast walking due to joint issues. Not nervous about the distance but the people factor is a little anxiety-producing -- the being out in the world, head up, shoulders back. Belonging. Eeeek. I do belong -- in these last months I've gone from a reluctant 3-4 day exerciser doing it because if I didn't I couldn't move (arthritis) to a person who plans exercise and doesnt feel satisfied by one session a day -- who wants more, like tossing in a bike ride or a class at the other end of the day. My body needs the release so I guess I am officially addicted, yippee. And today makes me officially athletic. Who is this? Yippee!

Thanks for all your encouragement, David. Today a bike ride! Very exciting to be discovering the trails around here. And my husband can ride, which is fantastic. He's had three back surgeries and has a bad leg -- cane, brace, etc. -- but he can ride like a gazelle. I'm more like a turtle on my bike but I will get there.

I have met a couple guys on this site and we have met up for some marathons - but afterwards they always tend to want more from me than advice on wt loss. I was hoping this site would be full of people struggling w/the same issues I am struggling with and not just guys wanting to get a piece of me. Yes I'm venting and I won't name any names but you know who you are. I just hope by me speaking up the other ladies on this site won't make the mistake of driving several hours to participate in activities w/other users of this site just to be lied to and used. Keep the emails to weight loss and don't believe the guys on here only care about your progress. I have met other users of this site complaining about the same thing. Just be safe and make good decisions - dont give out your personal info or your emails or phone numbers because these guys on here could easily become stalkers.

Good luck and stay healthy.

Not PREPARING for... FINISHED! Finished my first 5k today since college (28 years ago). Ran/walked it in 46 minutes. I'm signed up for another one the first weekend in November and the goal for that one is to be able to run the whole thing.

GO TEAM GINGER!!!

Very inspiring thread.

Hmmm ... maybe having a specific sporting event goal WOULD be a fun thing to work toward.

Hmmm....

I have my second 5k next week, and am hoping to beat my time from last month (47 minutes). I keep kidding around with friends saying I'll race them to be last, and that I jog more slowly than even my dog walks, and I sure wish I weren't so darned slow! I'm doing a phone app designed to help you go faster. I did one that was a couch to 5k, and now i'm upping my time. Goal is to do Tough Mudder next spring, and eventually lose enough and get my endurance up enough to do a marathon or a triathlon. I feel like i've come a long ways already - from no jogging to 5 k is pretty good - but it also feels like an awfully slow plod to get there. Thanks for threads like these that keep me motivated and looking forward in my pursuits everyone!

I am really hoping to do tough mudder as well! I am not sure I will be ready. I have done several 5k runs so far and finally have my time much better, I have also done a 10k run recently. I am definitely doing the Spartan races next year, but tough mudder scares the poop out of me lol. I soooooooo want to do it though <3

I'm training for SWAT school, as I'm a police officer. It's in January So lots of cardio pretty much...but it's tough to train when you feel tired so easily. I'm only 3 weeks post-op, so I'm not trying to be an Ironman yet..

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
