How much weight did you lose on your pre-op diet?

Recommended Posts

I have also started mine early because my eating was so out of control and I wanted to take that craziness out of the equation. I was also worried about my liver being too large. My clinic told us that if it is too large there is a chance of them not being able to do the surgery laparascopically, but will have to open you up to place the band. NO THANKS!

I am allowed low fat yogurt (SF), low fat cottage cheese, SF Jello, Egg whites, and Water bascially. Just started this morning, so yes I am finding it difficult but I am focusing on the goal. I would love to lose some weight before the surgery - at least the amount I put on these last couple of months!

I was supposed to be on a low fat/low carb diet for two weeks before the surgery and I can honestly say I cheated (stressing the 'ed' part), when I got weighed right before the surgery I weighed the exact same I did when I first got all this started..lol

I do think I lost some because the same I was initially weighed up to surgery date I know I had gained some b/c my eating habits hadn't changed.

I did ask my doc how my liver looked and everything after the surgery and it said it looked good that the diet helped so as long as he was happy i'm ok with it :guess

I am half way a two week liquid fast - would have to say that its not going FAST enough. But have managed to stick to it so far, my kids have become the liquid police and are watching me to keep me on the straight and narrow. Only 8 more sleeps!!

On my preop diet, I only lost 5 lbs, but my surgeon said I was okay. I did the south beach diet for two weeks. it was hard because i love bread, but worth it.

i love reading all your comments. much encouragement. thanks!

I had two weeks of Clear Liquids only and it was the hardest thing I ever did. I did not cheat and I lost 9 pounds pre-op. It was worth every torturous minute and the Dr. said he was amazed at how well my liver looked.

I did a 1000 calorie (or less) diet, mostly liquids except for some chicken and fish, for 18 days and I lost 20 pounds. And I cheated a little over Easter. I found that when I cheated, I instantly became ravenously hungry... but when I stayed on the diet, I was not really physically hungry.

Hey, thanks to both of you for your support. I'm definately feeling a bit better and more positive now! I will try very hard to stay on track for my last few days.

I noticed that you are 28 years old also, did the doctor give you a hard time because of your age? And what was your BMI before the operation?

I am currently on day 6 of my two week diet (Optifast) and I have to say that it's killing me. I cheated last night by having a garden salad with grilled chicken. It was the absolute best salad that I have ever had in my life (probably not, but it tasted like it). I am down 11 pounds already. I truly hate this liquid diet and I can't wait until it's over. I was determined that I wasn't going to cheat, but I just had to chew on something with some flavor. I find it very hard to get all of the shakes in. For instance...I was at the ball field all day today with my son and I only had one shake, one Protein bar and a Soup for dinner...I'm suppose to have four shakes, two Soups, two bars...I only took in about 450 calories today. Any suggestions?

Tina

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
