I did 10 days of clear liquids before. I had very little post-op pain. Never filled the prescription pain meds and only took OTC twice. I believe that two things that affect the amount of post-op pain you have are 1) the skill of your surgeon, and 2) how closely you adhere to the pre-op clear liquids. The better your surgeon is and the more you shrink your liver, the faster he (or she) can get the job done and get out without disturbing your insides any more than necessary. So if you've been prescribed a pre-op diet, it may be tough, but you'll be glad the first week after surgery.

I'm now on a high protien no/low carb diet have been for two weeks up until 10 days prior I'll be on a clear liquid diet with 90 grams of protien. After surgery it drops to 60 grams of protien and cl's for another 4 weeks. After surgery he said that I have to make the protien with only 4oz Water and can't drink anything for 30min prior and then 60-90 after to help hold the muddy protien in the pouch so I will feel full more. I guess this is pretty strict compaired. Let me tell you I've slipped here and there. But lost 8lbs in two weeks

My doctor told me I had to lose 10 lbs before surgery. I had a month to do it before my surgery, but I was going to Vegas and there was no way I was going to be on a diet then! I ended up doing the Medifast diet for 2 weeks. 5 nasty Medifasts a day and a 300 calorie meal. I did lose the 10 lbs before surgery and to be honest after that I felt more optimistic about my diet after the surgery. I felt that if I could actually do something an extreme diet, that eating healthy wouldn't be as extreme as I originally thought.

I have to drink 2 healthy shakes a day and eat either a salad, fish or Protein and veggies for 2 weeks before the diet to shrink my liver. They didn't say anything to me about any weightloss though. I want to lose a few pounds on my own before surgery though, any good tips would be appreciated.

My doctor said since I was starting with a lower BMI than some, I didn't need any preop diet. I did the last supper routine.

:hungry:

I had to go on a liquid diet for 5 days , should have been 7 but my surgery was brought forward.

my diet consisted of banana & chocolate shakes with fruit & yoghurt blended in & any Soup which had no lumps.

I lost 11 pounds in 5 days on it but it was hard going & i felt like i was sloshing around all the time.

I note that most of oguys are from America, I am from Worcester England & my surgeon was Dr Paul Anthony Super :clap2:

My diet seems a bit different than those posted here. My surgery is on June 12th and so today I start my pre-op diet. I'm allowed 1,000 calories a day with little to no fat. Two days before the diet I am on a clear liquids-only diet.

I'm not supposed to have caffeine..... I'm going to try to wean myself slowly rather than quit cold turkey. Last time I tried to go off of caffeine I thought I was dying for two days. :phanvan

Yes I had a 2 week full liquid diet so I was allowed to eat cream Soups , yogrut, sf Jello and sf pudding along with my Protein Shakes and of course all the Water I would like. Today is my day before surgery and all I can have is clear liquids. I made it this far without any cheats but I think today will be hard with just the clear liquids. The Protein and Soup really kept me full.

I have just finished my first week (of two) on 3 packets of Opti-Fast a day plus 225 calories of low glycemic green vegetables. First few days were really hard. The Opti-Fast was awful but now it I just down it one gulp. Have lost 10 1/2 lbs. What it has shown me is that I now know that I have the will power to do this!!! :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
