June 2007 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

HI All! I'm Back! I don't know about y'all but day 3 seemed to be definitely HUMP day for me! GAS pains horrible! Felt Crappy! But better today!

ToniTeach.....I'll be right behind you on the exercise! I was working out 5Xweek before surgery and I don't want to lose the "want to"! I have always worked out.....I'd be about twice the size I am if I didn't! I think the best advice on working out is just start....keep doing it...and switch it up!!!! Let me know how it is going for you 'cause I want to start back bad.....and I can't yet!

HotToddy! Thanks again for the calendar! So sweet of you!

Snoopy...I am so sorry.....I am praying! Please let me know of any specifics to pray for!

Stefanie...sorry about the gas pains...and the horrible deferred gas pains! And I agree the port site is definitely the most tender and painful; especially if gas is involved! I'm definitely better on the 4th day! I think walking definitely helps! (I am a day ahead of you....I had it from Snow in Hurst!...and today is definitely better!)

Marlynncreel....welcome back from Mexico! Next time it will be from the beach!?! Right!!!!???/

KT....I'll need your "heads up" on the Bandster Hell thing!!!!!

Hi All, I just wanted to post a warning. Last night I couldn't fall asleep. No pain or anything like that. So I got up and two tablets of diphenhydramine (it is what is in most sleep aids), which I used to take all the time before surgery, I slept for 12 hours and still woke up groggy. It made me a little scared too. I felt like I was under anesthesia again. I couldn't wake myself up enough to wake my DH to tell him how scared I was thinking I wasn't going to wake up. So I am guessing that having the band makes medicine work differently then pre-band.

Huntersmom, that is really scary!!! I'm glad you are "back with it."

As for me, I'm still a week away from my pre-surgery diet, but I have been working really hard this week eating better (not great admittedly) and starting to exercise. And I lost 3 pounds!! I basically took out all fried foods and high-sugary foods out this past week. Since I don't drink soda, I don't really have to worry about that. I exercised 3 times this week (boy, am I out of shape). But still - 3 pounds!! Whoo hoo!

Protein- I have a question, I wrote down ideas from you all on other Protein powders, however how about tasteless ones, not vanilla and choc, that you can put into Soups?? do any of you have any thougths. I am trying to see how I can get in my Protein with out having to drink just those shakes. I know there are fruit flavors for drinks too.

I bought some "Any Whey" at GNC. It's tasteless and is meant to be mixed in other foods. I haven't tried it yet cause I don't start mushies til TOMORROW!!!! But I read a lot about it on other threads, and people like it a lot.

So tomorrow I get to start on soft mushies! Scrambled eggs, grits, oatmeal...etc. I'm soooo excited! Yesterday was the first day I've been really hungry since surgery. The funny thing is... I ate (well, drank) more than I have been and felt really guilty and like a failure kinda. Then I added up all my calories for the day and was at 1000. What the heck?! The reason the band works before restriction is called STARVATION! Anybody can lose weight eating 700 cal a day!! Hope today is better!! :hungry:

I really appreciate everyone's encouragement and advice! The walking is definitely helping, even though it is just around the house and the back yard right now! I'm afraid to get out in the neighborhood just yet, just in case one of those nausea/almost fainting attacks hits me again. That was really scary! And hubby works offshore and won't be back for another three weeks, so I'm keeping it right at the house for now.

The walking brings on more gas pains, but the more of those walking pains I endure, the more the gas seems to dissipate some, so I am keeping at it!

SimplyMe...you were banded in Hurst a day ahead of me? Very good! It's nice to meet a "neighbor" on here!

It's nice to meet everyone on here!

Things are looking up!

Heather, Hang in there!! Do you need the Protein powder as much if you are eating mushies? I am thinking that the need for the Protein is more when you are on liquids. I did not want to buy anything until my post op doctor appointment on Wednesday. If I think it will be hard to get in my protein, then I will get it. I pureed chicken noodle Soup, low sodium, and could get down a cup. I am sorry, my brain can't wrap around that. It was not good to me. I will have to figure out other options! I love black bean Soup and refried, fatfree vegie ones, which I think I should be able to eat next week. then I read someone who baked ricotta cheese with sauce. That sounds good too. Have you thought of those?

I had to get out of the chair and had wedding duties to do. So I baked three batches of these gooyie butter squares. Cutting them will be the challenge!!!

I asked my DH if my breath smelled, he said nothing more than usuall!! Isnt' he a comedian! I guess it is ok for now, but I taste a difference.

Good luck with your excercise Minty Fresh, it will all pay off on surgery day!!!

What time do you have to be at the hospital? Surgery time? I have to be there at 6:15 and I have no idea what time my surgery is scheduled for... all the lady told me was that I was the second surgery of the day!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
