June 2007 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

HI ALL:high5:

I am glad I found this - I was about to start a June 07 thread!

I can't tell you how excited I am about my approaching surgery date. My husband and I are on the journey together and it has been a long one - we first saw the surgeon on Nov 05! Because of insurance issues and miscommunications it took us until Jan 07 to get everything submitted - but once that happened we were approved in 2 days. Unfortunately we can only go to one facilty in town and our surgeon was booked through May! My husband is scheduled for May 24th - he starts his preop diet on Thursday. I will start mine on the 31st - not looking forward to it - but determined to make it work. Someone else mentioned nausea with hunger - I feel like my whole body is attacking me when I am hungry - nausea, headache, lightheadedness, and sweating - the first few days should be a lot of fun! :speechles

I ordered a bunch of Protein drink samples from several websites to give all different types of flavors a try. 2 week pre-op diet is 4 Protein drinks a day, sf Clear liquids, coffee or tea, and nothing else - so I figured we better find a variety of things!

Good luck to everyone on their pre-op diets. I greatly admire those starting to exercise also - I haven't even thought about that yet!

Missy

Welcome to the Junie's crew Missy! We're an excited bunch!!!

Lynette, I'm sorry you got post poned ;) You're taking it VERY well. I think I'd be pitching a FIT! I hope it passes quickly.

Accountability: Sticking to plan today. I NEED to get out for a walk still. I'm waiting for the kids to get off the bus so we can go together. On the up side...I must have been retaining A LOT of Water cuz I already lost 4 of the 10lbs I put back on. SO, I should get those 10lbs off before my appointment on the 15th!

How's everyone else doing??

Sorry about your postponement, Lynette -- I, too, would be really upset! Hopefully all of our dates will arrive quickly!

Hi Missy, welcome to our thread! Let us know how you like the various Protein drinks you are sampling. I also have an assortment of packets that I'm trying now -- I want to find the ones that I don't like now so that I won't have any surprises after surgery!

Congrats Momma on the 4 lbs! That's great.

As for me, I stuck to my diet wholeheartedly today. I wanted to go the gym this evening, but I had to work late to meet a deadline and I have a terrible headache...I know, excuses, excuses, but it's true! I have no idea if I've lost any weight over the last week because I actually don't own a scale. But I ordered one online last week, so it should arrive soon.

Stay strong everyone!

Hello June bandsters!

I was excited to see the thread yesterday too, thank you KT. I am scheduled for Jone 7 like Lucy! Becky will be the day prior. KT can tell us her experience to help us prepare.

I have been getting questionable about my decision, but others on the site said it is post banding gitters and normal. Are any of you feeling that way? I really am excited about the decision, but it has been a long wait. I too have been given the date about 6-8 weeks ago.

My journey started with the coordinator prescreening on the phone if she thought I would be eligible, my BMI is 36. But with my health issues she thought I should move forward. I attended an orientation, a visit with a psychiatrist which was filling out many questions about myself, I had to write a letter to the doctor about my life of weight issues, how I had tried to lose it in the past, my issues, etc. I then had an appointment with a RN at the doctors office, she may have a level of ed above, not sure, but she did some pre-tests, took my weight and a picture. I have not met the surgeon in person yet. I have my appointment with him on May 21. My husband has to go too. I also had to watch a video on line that sent him an email that I saw it, it is called Emmie, I think. My husband has to watch it too. I have a physical and a support meeting to attend on the 21 and the 24 too. that is it. My insurance has already of course approved it. I am concerned with the out of pocket percent I will have to pay? It could be as much as $4000! not something I want to happen. but it is worth it at this point.

Are you all excited to finally see June in site!! I can't beleive it. I have not told my sisters and brother yet, for I think I will be faced with questions and a look like I am crazy! Most people I shared with are happy for me. My husband is supportive, but always thin and does not understand the weight stress and emotional roller coaster.

Have you all formed a list to buy yet? I saw that on line and I need to get shopping, it has foods, gasx, heating pad, etc. I am a planner. I am also glad to have a recliner for I hear it will come in handy!

Well, I need to get to work, I am already late, I get so excited about writing I forget I have a schedule to keep.

bye guys!

hi ja9va  and welcome! I think we all get those pre-band jitters. The other day, I re-read my surgeon's Band binder. It has SO much info and really put my mind at ease. I'm actually more jittery about my pre-op testing! I worry that they'll find something that will keep me from getting the surgery. Then I worry because I haven't gotten my formal approval letter in the mail, but the Doc's office got the approval. So, I'm trusting them. I don't think they'd go ahead without proof of payment.

I need to be more pro active and make my shopping list and start getting a few things. The great thing is, we eat so little after surgery that I shouldn't need to have cases upon cases of food! :)

Accountability: Yesterday I stayed 100% compliant to medifast. Have lost 6 of the 10 pounds I gained back, so I am confident that there will actually be a LOSS at my pre-op physical! :whoo: I didn't exercise yesterday...will make an effort to get some in today. The only good thing about medifast is, you're not supposed to do much excersise, in the first three weeks, because of the ultra low calories!

Lucy, I am so excited for you! My band date is also June 7th! I'll be having mine done in Monterrey, Mexico, how about you? Where will you be? I make sure to say a prayer for you too on that day.

Hi everyone! My band date is June 7th in Monterrey, Mexico. I am so excited! I have a little less than a month to go! I'm not nervous yet, but will get that way I'm sure. My mother was banded in August 2006 and I've watched the wt just fall off of her, I can't wait! Good luck to you all!

Welcome to all the new June Bandsters. Even though I got postponed until July 2, I hope you don't mind if I stay just to see how you all do. I'm excited for each and everyone of you.:)

Hey Missy,

What web sites were able to send you free samples of Protein powder? I've emailed 21 companies and only one said they'd send me some free samples.

Have a great day everyone!!!:D

musicalmomma,

Did you have to go on the medifast prior to the surgery? Is this a liquid drink with a restricted diet? I read others who had to fast prior to the surgery, but I am thinking I won't have to or it would be a short lived one since I am seeing the doctor only 2 weeks prior to the surgery date.

I had a heart rythem issue in November and I went through all the tests, and nothing was found. I have not had another problem since, and iIshared all this with the Nurse/Physician Assistant when I saw them in March. I worry to when I go for the physcial they may say I need other tests? They never asked for my test results when I had the problem. I hope it does not put it off either. Like you we have to trust they are doing the right steps.

I did pull out my stuff today and looked at it too, that made me feel better.

It seems several of us are being banded June 7! How cool.

Janine

Marlynn,

Were you asking me about the list of companies I e-mailed?

If so, I googled 'Protein powder' and went to 21 different web sites and asked about getting samples. Only 1 reply that they would send some. I haven't got them yet, so maybe they won't be sending them either.

If this wasn't the list you were talking about, please disregard.

Lynette:)

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket. I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
