Week 7 of liquids -- gimme food already!

Recommended Posts

Six days left of the trial of trials. I'm so ready for food. A week of Clear liquids pre-op and six weeks of full liquids post-op is finally entering the home stretch. Thankfully I've had good Soups this whole time, but moving to solids next week, I sure won't miss Soups going forward. I'm starting to have daily daydreams about chewing food. I made it through my birthday on liquids and will make it through Easter on liquids. As an early Mother's Day celebration, my best friend and I are taking our mothers out for high tea four days after I start food, and one day before my first fill. I know I'll have to be careful that day, but I can't stop thinking about it! I'm happy I've been able to make it this far and have actually followed eating and exercise instructions, which is a biggie. I've lost a moderate amount of weight post-op, not as much as I would have thought, but it's better than nothing. I'm getting diet-weary this week, and am really looking forward to the next phase, when my band can start helping me. Just needed to throw all this out there. Thanks for listening.

6 weeks? Egads! I always recommend people follow doctor orders but more than 2 weeks is too extreme, imo.

Tmf, I've been told by people in his office that my surgeon pushes for maximum weight loss in the post-op phase. Developing discipline. I'm tired of dieting but I decided not to fight it. Hoping it gets a little easier on solids and hoping I don't gain this weight back.

Why liquids so long with band?

My doc likes an aggressive weight loss in the first weeks post-op before introducing solids, and then does a first fill at six weeks as well. The cynic in me could say it helps his numbers look good, but the compliant trusting patient in me will say it helps develop discipline that I'm going to need while aiming for my green zone.

I commend you. 2 weeks of liquids to me was brutal. I think would have disappeared on liquids for 7 weeks lol

When I had my surgery (6 years ago) I was on liquids for 8 weeks. It was brutal but I got through it. Keep following your doctor's orders. Whether you agree or disagree, he knows what he's talking about. Sometimes I thought my doctor was nuts but I did what he said anyway. I lost 115 pounds the first year and another 35 the second year. I've maintained my weight loss for 4 years now and counting. I won't be going back to my former self.

Keep up the good work. You're doing great!

Cindy

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
