I cannot remember how many times I saw my surgeon but I will be having a revision, and am switching from another surgeon that I was originally going to have my DS with. With the new doctor, I went to a group seminar first, and then will see him for a consult in two weeks. I have all my medical information, and did all my testing (the testing required from previous doctor,) I just need to see the nutritionist, and psych which I will do all the same day. So the only things I need to do next is do any extra things that he might need which I'm not sure what that will be. So far I've done my endoscopy, upper gi, blood test about two months ago, my cardiac function, and pulmonary test, as well as my PFT. Any additional information would be appreciated.

I saw my surgeon twice before the surgery. He gave be a list of pre-op requirements and once that was done we scheduled the surgery. He was opened however, to any questions I had at anytime. I had his phone numbers and cell numbers as well as the rest of his team and stayed in constant contact whenever needed.

That's fantastic. I like the fact you guys had great communication. The doctor I switched from had me going through too much to get information, so I had to go elsewhere.

Are you lapband, sleeve or by-pass, I'm sure you will recieve different answers based on which procdure you're having. I saw my surgeon twice before surgery. Once during the consultation and again 1 week prior to the surgery. Congrats and best wishes on your upcoming surgery!

I had the sleeve. I saw my surgeon once, but I was self pay in Mexico. Just curious, how far out are you from sleeve, what has lead you and your Dr.s to decide on a revision for you? My husband is looking at doing the sleeve, and I'm not sure it will be successful for him and have been trying to talk him into DS, so I'm wondering, do you feel you should have gone with the DS from the start, or has there been a complication with the sleeve that has made you need a revision?

Two years in July. No complication, just very minimal lost. I thought the sleeve would have been enough for me and didn't want malabsorption and thought the DS would have been too much. So now I realize I need it, and between the RNY and the DS, the DS is a better choice to switch to no pun intended.

I can't remember but I saw my surgeon like almost every month to two months for almost a year. Everytime I went he would give me more orders of things he wanted done (scripts, because I navvigated outside of his hospital for pulmonary, sleep apnea, heart)he was very strict in his procedure, which I am grateful for. I will say that all the things I had to do, and all the research I did, still didn't prepare me for what the actual surgery, and post surgery is like, because we are all different, we have no idea until we go through it.

Luckily my insurance requires that I be seen and monitored by my surgeon for 4 months and then I can get my surgery. But I attended a seminar for my surgery 2 years before my surgery to understand what kinds of options are available. I did all that before hand and once I landed a job with a good insurance I started the process within 2 months of my new job. Got all my paper work needed by PCP early on and start meeting my surgeon in December 2013 and had my surgery end of March 2014. And I left my job a week before my surgery and I was able to continue my benefits by paying for my cobra (insurance stays the same and I pay the monthly cost of my insurance). So it varies insurance by insurance.
