Had pancakes for breakfast

Recommended Posts

Yum..tomorrow is pancake and bacon breakfast..going to eat a normal one with butter and syrup..But a lean sausage....LOL

I have it once in a while and I like it bad..i eat everything else so damn healthy.....Looking forward to my little treat!

I know..don't care..lol doing it anyway!

You might want to try sugar free Syrup - tastes similar and will minimize your possibility of dumping

No sugar free syrup for me....yuk! I can only eat a small pancake and 1 tiny sausage..no way am I ruining it with sugar free anything! I have dumped before but not with this...The worst thing is ice cream for me..It kills me.. But the reason I can dump is because I have both. A bypass and sleeve......

My new fave treat these days is cottage cheese with sugar free raspberry jam, yum! I can't do the sugar free Torani syrups, they seem to not agree with me even pre surgery.

Has anyone one Kodiak Cakes? It is a whole wheat/grain pancake mix and you just add Water. Not super high Protein, but 2 4" pancakes are around 190 calories and 7g (I think) or protein. My husband and I saw them on Shark Tank a couple weeks ago and I wanted to try them. The only place that I know of the sells it is Target. The recipes I have tried make them so heavy and thick. These were good and worth a try to me.

I was gonna buy the Protein pancake mix I saw on Amazon. I can't remember the name. My family loves pancake night. I said I didn't really miss much since surgery. Then I read this post. pancakes sound so good!

Just found this online after Googling Protein pancakes. I'll be all over the coconut ones once I transition to solid foods (this Friday, yay!)

There is a banana/egg pancake you can make which is okay. I think I have had maybe 2 pancakes in the last year. never can eat the whole pancake but with lite Syrup or sugar free syrup it was good for a change. I mostly eat turkey sausage and egg beaters for Breakfast so it's a treat to do pancakes. As long as you don't eat stacks of pancakes every day I think you will be okay. Part of the reason I got WLS was so I didn't stress everytime I put food in my mouth. The band tells me when I've eaten enough and I pretty much don't count calories.

This 'pancake' post is good to see. I love pancakes and think about them sometimes. But instead of making 3 or 4 big ones for me, now with the VSG, I will probably just have one (or a half of one like RJ). Cool! Bit if I have it, it will be with butter and real Syrup or 1-2 Tbsl. of honey. Just a rare time; not a habit.

I'm stalled right now at 205 pounds (still paying for that Charleston trip!) and want to be in Onederland by Apr. 23, so I might not do pancakes this week. (But even this is still good, because I didn't think I'd reach Onederland until June [6 months; I'm at 4.5 months].)

New version of my "30 second microwave Protein pancakes"!...

So I ate all the pancakes I made from my OP and decided to make another batch (you can't beat a 30 second pancake breakfast) this time I used 3/4 cup Bob's Red Mill Buttermilk pancake mix, one scoop Unjury unflavored powder, 1 scoop Garden of Life Raw vanilla Protein, 1/4 tsp baking soda, 1/4 tsp baking powder, 2 eggs and 1/2 cup skim milk. Made 8 pancakes. Ate 1, froze 7. Man o man these are good! Much lighter and fluffier than the first batch and the Raw Vanilla Protein added a much richer, nuttier "whole wheat" flavor. And the protein per pancake went from 5g to 8g.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
