I think it all depends on what type of health concerns you've had. I also have Blue Shield, but granted, my BMI is way higher than yours. What I do know is that Blue Shield wants to make sure that there is documentation, as any other insurance company. I started complaining about knee problems, asthma problems, sleep apnea, Migraines, irregular cycle, etc. When it came down to submit this all for a lap band approval, I was approved very fast because all of the groundwork had already been taken care of. Start talking to your general doctor about health concerns that you have.

I have blue cross blue shield...the at first asked for documentation even with me having a bmi of 40. However, I was able to prove arthritis and pre diabetes. Definitely contact your insurance and see what you need to get approved. Good luck!!

I have Blueshield of California and they do require a 6 month supervised diet. They also require documented weight loss attempts, a psych eval and a nutritional eval.

Lots of hoops to jump through. That's why I decided to go self pay. Won't cost that much more and I don't have to deal with all that mess.

I have bcbs anthem. They will approve for pre-diabetes??

I'm at the start about one month in to the process and my bmi is 39.1 and I'm one of those " healthy" fat people. Right? Lol

I had a sleep study and get the results on the 23rd. If that comes back as ok then I was told by the center my ins will not ok surgery.

But the weight that gets submitted is the final weight at the surgeons so I'm all confused

I had anthem and no waiting period. Bmi over 40 or over 35 with 2 comorbidities. Your dr. Can help with those.

I never go to the doc unless I'm really in pain! I've been living with foot pain leg pain for over a year! I also get chest pains that I haven't checked out at all ! It feels like something is pinching my boob lol

Those all count! Your surgeon will write it up all medical for the insurance. Good luck

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
