Increasingly Hating Foods I Loved

Recommended Posts

I'm about 4.5 months out and it seems like every week I realize I now hate a food I loved pre op.

Steak and most red meats now gross me out and now even chicken is having the same effect.

While I don't want to go back to the way I ate beforehand I am getting concerned about limiting my sources of Protein.

Anyone else experiencing the same thing or have any advice for me?

Thanks

Andrew

I personally have not had this issue, but a close friend of mine who was sleeved 12/7 has had a similar issue. He will eat something, but can only eat it once. After he has had it he suddenly develops a type of aversion to it. It does not occur with each and every food source he has tried, otherwise he would run out of options and starve in short order! But he does struggle with figuring out ways to prepare his Proteins once he gets to this point. You just have to keep trying. It may be hard, but try to figure new and creative ways to prepare your Proteins, and perhaps you will rediscover a fondness for them! Good luck!!!

Andrew0929 this is a common occurance and, while it may be disconcerting to you now, I recommend just listening to your body and finding HEALTHY foods that appeal to you NOW and enjoying them. You are in your sweet spot of weight loss...enjoy it and run with it! My understanding is this is like the old refrain regarding the weather: If you don't like the weather...wait. It'll change! In 3 months you may well find that what appeals to you today doesn't do much for you, t's a juicy steak you crave!! Hang in there and please don't fear a total loathing of all food because it's not gonna happen. food is one of God's great gifts given to us in this life, and you will be eating many delectable and wonderful morsels for the rest of your time on this planet. And then it's off to Heaven- and who knows what feasts the Big GUY has waiting for us there!! ;)

Thanks ... Great info.

I actually don't mind disliking these foods and welcome my new eating habits. Hoping it will stay this way as I'm not good when able to eat anything.

Yes! Almost every day things become more sweet tasting to me - it's too much. Even Powerade Zero is too sweet now. I like the Nestle Pure Life waters with flavors (lemon, orange, etc) and even those are too sweet. So anything with actual sugar in it that is supposed to be really sweet is WAY TOO MUCH!

for the first few months all i really ate was fish everything else was just painfulll

then oddly the thing i could eat first no worries was steak, not all beef but steak!

i tried casserole beef stir fry roast painful unpleasant but steak no problem!

now i hardly eat fish its not that i dont like it but you know fish is kinda pricey!

i eat chicken chicken yep more chicken lol but i did mostly before anyway.

turkey steak hello mr ribeye yum yum

i will here and there have a slice or 2 of roast pork or beef but its tricky.

eggs are not my friend tried them 3 times spaced out my body tries to turn inside out and expel all my organs i heave so much on half a teaspoon of it so i just dont.

what you dont want to do is let your mind take over and seem to automatically reject food now because in the back of your mind the less you can eat the less you will eat therefore the better you will do.

food aversion not good if its just mentally and not actually physically that could spiral till your just eat apples and nothing else!

Something I find more and more unusual, is that certain food that I used to enjoy as comfort food is loosing there apeal... they just don't taste as good as they used to. Sometimes that is frustrating as I want to enjoy them at that moment and then the experience is so dissapointing. I realised I have emotional conections to these carbs and need to work through this, but im not sure how to fill this void now..

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
