Any April Sleevers?

Recommended Posts

I'm April 9th. Going through all the emotions; happy, sad, anxious, scared. I'm worried about the next 2 days, can't stop thinking about it. Looking forward to it being over, maybe then a huge weight will be lifted off my shoulders! Good luck everyone!

Since my surgery is Wednesday, today I went and picked up my post op groceries, Vitamin supplements and stuff to take to the hospital. Each day and each step is making it more real. Good luck to everyone!

Hey everyone! My surgery is scheduled for April 9. This journey has been really fast for me (2 months total from when I asked for the referral from my regular doctor). Getting nervous now...just ready for it to be done. Having my surgery at south San Francisco kaiser.

I'm set for April 16th. I am doing a south beach diet with 800 calories a day per my doc and I've lost seven pounds already! Woo hoo! Tomorrow I'm gonna go buy some shakes and see which ones I like best. I am so excited!

I am doing this for my children, do I can run, play, go on rides, fly to Disney world, and not think of whether I can fit, move, etc.

Cheers to the new us! (Protein shake cheers, of course)

Another April 9th sleever here! I just got my surgery check in time, ugh NOON! That will be rough with no Water before, I may stay up until midnight drinking!

Pre-op diet has gone well, shakes + a protein/veg meal and stay under 870 cal a day. It's not easy but it's been a really good look at how my head deals with hunger and what I can say to myself in those low moments to stay on track.

Hello! I had my sleeve done on April 1st! No regrets here yet! I experienced the ocean of emotions y'all are experiencing too. No issues in surgery. Everything went as good as could be hoped for. I spent one night in the hospital, where they mostly kept me sedated on iv pain meds. The first night was rough, trying to get comfortable in the hospital bed. And the first day home wasn't a walk in the park. (Again, thankful for the liquid pain meds and diphenhydramine!) once I forced myself up and out healing was on its way. The walking def helped with the gas pains. No pain ever from the incisions, thankfully. I only experienced nausea in the hospital but they gave me a patch for that and it resolved that. I haven't had it since, though they did send me home with nauseas meds I haven't had to take any yet. Today is day 6 post op and I've lost 8 pounds. Tomorrow I will get to add strained Soups and pudding. I'm def looking forward to it!!! Good luck to y'all!!!

My surgery is on the 16th. What really helps ease my mind is literally not to think about the surgery itself. I feel like if I think about it I may panic and get scared, or if I think about it I may get overly excited. In college I was taught there are two different types of stress the good, in which someone may be planning something big like surgery or a wedding. This will cause u to get excited unable to sleep and constantly thinking about the event. Of course we all know the bad stress that will cause worry and headache etc. I choose to continue what I'm doing, I just don't think about it. This really helps me get bye

Hi jerseyjazzell, I'm on the 16th as well. I'm focusing on the good stress! : )

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
