1st week post op protein drink! :) yum!

Recommended Posts

Some people have a hard time drinking just the Protein Drinks out of the box. Today I added a little more than half of a premier chocolate Protein Shake (about 8oz), half a banana, 1 tbsp of Peanut Butter, and a few ice cubes. Threw it in my ninja and it was delicious!!!! You can play around with measurements to fit the consistency you want! After next week I think I'll try adding some almonds!

I did exactly that last week with a whole banana and one teaspoon of Peanut Butter. It was a nice change of pace!

Try PB2 instead of peanut butter... pretty much tastes the same but much better for you.

I also like the new strawberry flavor from them. Little less of a funky flavor although I don't mind the chocolate either. vanilla is good blended with some chocolate PB2 and Torani sugar free salted caramel Syrup. My fave so far.

It's not an issue if you don't eat a lot of it or don't have it often. If fat is a concern you can get the same delicious Peanut Butter flavor w/o the fat by using PB2. And you can use more of it if you want more PB flavor w/o adding a lot fat and calories. Depending on what stage you are at, adding calories and a little fat can be helpful, as it's hard sometimes to eat enough to feel energetic. Peanut Butter in reasonable amounts is considered a healthy thing if you choose a no sugar added natural variety.

What is PB2 and where do you get it?

I've gotten it at Walmart in a plastic jar in the Peanut Butter section. It was cheaper on Amazon but you have to be careful to compare the package sizes and different sellers! It is a powdered form of peanut butter where most of the fat has been extracted. I use one tablespoon of the chocolate PB2 in a large shake and it has 22 calories, 1/2 g fat and 1-1/2 g sugar and 2 G Protein. A $4.50 jar at walmart gives me 30 servings that way. For comparison, my jif pb has 95 calories, 8 g fat, the same sugar and 3-1/2 G protein. You can add Water to reconstitute also.

Random question, but it's okay to add fruit to Protein shakes in the full liquids diet (like week 2)? And Peanut Butter as well? Just wondering.

My nutritionist and surgeon both told me not to eat anything that is fresh such as fruit or veggies until week 6. Rationale for that is that oftentimes "fresh" anything maybe contaminated even if we wash the product. You are wanting to protect your new stomach and let it heal without the risk of food poisoning. As far as the Peanut Butter I was told to wait until the soft food stage and to only eat one Tbs a day because of the fat content. Hope this helps.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
