well since the day of my surgery two months ago didn't go as we expected. I get to do all the food funerals and 2 week liver shrink diet over again. i got all worked up about it the first time but then it wasn't anywhere as hard as i thought it would be.

So i got another week and a 1/2 to go nuts lol

If you don't mind me asking, what happened the first time you tried to have the surgery? I'm sorry if am butting into your business, I am curious about everything about every aspect of this surgery.

no problem at all. as i explained when i first joined the group, i went in on March 17th for my bybass but because they found a huge hernia they couldn't do it. they had to do the hernia repair instead. i had to heal and now i'm 3.5 weeks from going in again.

absolutely nothing wrong with my surgery. One good thing that I got to know all of the staff in the hospital's WLS unit. and they are all expecting me back :)

I was supposed to be on the first week of June. Unfortunately, my thyroid levels are still uncontrollable and they refuse to do surgery on me because I am "medically unstable". This made me very sad but now I have to wait 6 weeks to see if the dosage they switched me too worked. I am currently taking 238 mcg of levothyroxine. I hope this time it worked.

Thanx dear. i feel a lil better now. My diet will be 2 weeks of shakes nd 2 weeks of clear fluids only. I t will propably be the hardest thing ive ever done in my life. i tried to take Clear Liquids only for 1 day last week nd it didnt work. i guess i have to try harder...

hi guys. My opp will b on the 24th nd im also freaked out abt the pre opp diet

No need to be freaked out about the pre-op diet. It is there to help your liver shrink, so it will be manageable during surgery. How long is your pre-op diet? Mine is only one week. I get 3 Protein Shakes a day and a lean cuisine or smart ones for dinner. Seems doable. Do you have an all liquid diet? I am not looking forward to the last day of my pre-op diet, all clear liquids and a bottle of magnesium citrate. That stuff is so gross. It may not be pleasant, but it is one of the most important diets we will ever be on.

My surgeon has had me on a diet similar to my pre-op diet since March 3rd. I refer to as the diet from hell. It is the hardest thing ever to stick to. I fallen off of it many a time, but I just keep going. I have managed to lose 17 pounds. One of the things that keeps me going is the letter I got with my pre-op paperwork. It states that if I gain weight before surgery, that it will be canceled. That will put the fear in you. I don't want to risk gaining or having a fatty liver. I definitely don't want my surgery canceled. I'm one of the lucky people who had very few requirements to get approved. I didn't have a waiting period or psych evaluation in my requirements. I feel very fortunate, because I know many of you have had to wait forever to get a date. Anyway, your pre-op diet will be difficult but it has a major reward in the end. I know you will be able to do it. :)

I am scheduled for surgery on June 10th. So excited, and I hope the days start to go by faster but waiting is killing me lol. I am having the roux en y.

@@stacy97006 I'm in Portland, who is doing your surgery? mine is Dr Emma Patterson. so nice to see someone so close!!

Dr. Spight at ohsu is doing mine on June 5th. Met with him yesterday and kinda scared me as I have lost 27 pounds and if my insurance didnt use my beginning weight I would not have been able to have surgery :( So frustrating as I think any weight you can lose before is better for you. My bmi was 37 with diabetes when I started in September and now its 34.4. I have been yo yo dieting for 20 yrs and the weight never stays off and that is why I am having the surgery.

I know how you feel. I have been eating really healthy for the last month. I talking a Protein Shake for Breakfast and lunch. For dinner I have been eating a half cup of whole grains, a half cup of veggies, and 3oz of Protein. My husband and I decided to go out to dinner the other night and I got so sick afterwards. I am pretty sure it was heavier meal that made me sick. I know I don't want to feel that way again.

My surgery is June 17, 2014. I start my liquid pre-op diet June 10. Today I organized my pants in my closet by size...I have size 18 (which are super tight but I refuse to go up) down to size 12....so I'm pretty good on clothes for a while. I also cleaned out part of a pantry shelf for my Protein powders and such.

I know exactly how you feel. I have clothes that go from a size 14 to size 22. And my 22's are tight, lol. But I'm not doing any more shopping until I lose a significant amount of weight.

What kind of liquid diet have they put you on?

I have my surgery date scheduled for June 16th! I'm in the kaiser Sacramento bariatric surgery program with Dr. Grinberg. My highest weight was 287, my "starting" weight at kaiser was 283 with a -15 pound pre-op goal weight of 268. I am now 262. All my lab work is done, my psych eval is done. I just have a few pre-op appointments to go. My clothes are falling off of me, but I refuse to buy clothes. I'm so excited for this new change. I'm also having my gallbladder removed at the same time. Is anyone else having that done too?

I kinda wish they would just take my gall bladder at the same time. I have read that so many people have problems with it after surgery and why go through another surgery if it can be done while already open.

I agree. It doesn't make much sense to have to go back in a few months after such a major surgery to remove the gallbladder. I think I am going to ask my surgeon about that at my pre-op.

Yeah, I have already had problems with gall bladder attacks, to the point that I had a consultation with a surgeon, but it was so close to my bypass date, I asked my bariatric surgeon if he could do it at the same time and he said yes. He said it will make my surgery a little longer and more complicated and my recovery time a little longer, but nothing to be concerned about and he does it all the time. If you have problems with it already, I would bring it up with your surgeon. I don't want to have to recover from abdominal surgery twice....especially if it's in the exact same spot.

I have gallstones already, so I asked the surgeon to remove my gallbladder at the same time. Apparently it's not something they regularly do in Ottawa. I'm very happy they're going to do both, saves a second surgery. June 19th cannot come soon enough for me. I start my liquid diet in 29th of May.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
