My pre op diet was the sugar busters diet. I could have 3 meals and 2 Snacks a day. I was not allowed any white bread, Pasta, rice, or sugar(that means reading labels, not just using sugar.) I could eat lean meats, all the vegetables I wanted and fruit for my snacks. I also could do 100% whole wheat bread and grains.

I have a seminar to attend next Thursday and I think that's when they'll give me my pre-op diet. That or the week after I have an appt with the surgeon so he might put me on it then? I'm not sure if he wants me on it for 2 or 3 weeks. I'll keep you updated!

Thanks Betty_s, when do you start your pre-op diet?

That is great your doing this. It can be so much helpful during the process. I am using the internet to prepare I have known a few people who have done surgery over the years and they have really came in handy. Although its hard for them to remember right before surgery, LOL! Now since this is surgery the idea in my head will stress me out, everyone I have had I get stressed over. Well I have only had one outside of a c/s but the thought of not being awake while things are occurring to me is the stresser for me.

I think I might be the only one doing the liver shrinking diet right now, but I am into day 6 and have found my appreciate is lost...... I keep track of my food on myfittnesspal (im samirax5 on there) and each day under calories. This week I know has been stressful in general and maybe that is influencing if I want to eat or not. Or maybe because I am so limited I don't even want the items that are allowed, but iv yet to crave anything. I am trying news way to be creative over here with it. But wondering how is everyone else fairing out?

I'm over 2 years out; had port "discomfort" for a couple of months or longer, if I remember correctly. Little twinges, little pulls that made me constantly aware it was there. Always good to ask your surgeon, and definitely if it it is more "pain" than my description.

I start my liver shrinking diet April 18th. I am counting down the days till I start! I think I talked to one of my coworkers went to doing the diet with me, which excites me! It will be a great support to have her doing the diet with me! I have 21 days till I get banded, I was trying to find out the cost of my surgery and got two different answers, very frustrating!

I start mine on the 22nd and my assistant in my office is going to do it with me so that I'm not alone at work and my mom and my daughter is going to do it with me at home. Who knows? Maybe this will kick start them to getting healthier.

You have a great support system. My family and co-workers are very supportive

Im nervous that i'm going to have a hard time on the diet though. However, I found this site to be very helpful and supportive!

Anyone have to attend a diet/behavioral session before surgery?

I had one yesterday from 2-6pm. I was the only lap-band patient out of about 10, but I wasn't surprised about that. There was one bypass and the rest were sleeve. One was a revision to sleeve and every time she mentioned her band failing, she would look at me and say "no offense, it just didn't work for ME" like her getting the revision was going to discourage me in my journey.

Anyways, the session was pretty good. Learned about my pre-op, liver shrinking diet that I will start on Thursday, next week. I get 2 high Protein Meal Replacement shakes and a sensible dinner consisting of 4 oz of low-fat, lean Protein and veggies. I can have all the veggies I want throughout the day, as well. They highly discouraged making your own Protein Shakes (which I do almost every morning) so I hate that I'm going to have to splurge and buy pricey RTD shakes.< /p>

How is everyone else doing? Getting close to may!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
