Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

So I am going to pose a question to everyone. Is it just me and am I paranoid?

Walk into a store ie: Old Navy, Kohls, etc. and head to the misses section versus the plus size that you no longer can wear.

Do you feel like you are being judged and people are secretly saying you should be in the plus sizes?

I am in 1X or 18-20 tops and 14-16 pants misses size, not plus.

Is this just a silly little voice in my head and should seek meds? LOL

Give me your thoughts.

It's funny you ask...Just had this experience last week. I don't feel comfortable in the Misses section yet - I'm on the edge of it. But, yes, I feel like an impostor, like I don't belong there. It's been so many years that I have been able to fit into a bigger size 14.

So my solution...I went to a CJ Banks / Christopher Banks store - it has both Misses and Plus in the same store. Their jeans are all mixed together in the same section. I felt more comfortable - better because the salesperson wouldn't come up to me and say "You're sizes are over here, honey" and lead me to the Big Girls sizes.

I bought a 14W and they are a bit tight, but they'll fit me in a couple of weeks, I'm sure of it.

I have found that misses 14 and 16 fit me better than plus. Evidently in the 55 pounds I have lost was my ass that went first and so plus tends to be baggy where a whole family can live in the butt of them.

I actually got to walk into Kohls to the misses and buy 2 pairs of pants. The funniest part was my hubs was picking out the pants and carrying them around for me so that I could try them on..

And would folks please realize that there are short folks out there and we are not 6 feet tall? Sorry...got carried away. LOL

I'm a tweener when it comes to jeans lengths. Some Petite lengths are really too short and some Average lengths are way too long!

Congrats on your 55 pounds! That's awesome!

It's the "mind games" our poor FAT brains play on us! I always "overthink" what people are saying or thinking. Usually, nobody cares less!!! :).

Hold that head up high, go straight on the misses section and don't look back because soon it won't you'll be thinking, "Am I really in a size 8-10?" ( or smaller).

Way to go!!

I even felt it in Goodwill..but my voice of reason, my husband is there to steer me to the clearance racks at Kohl's ...lol..It was just an interesting thought that I had.

In my mind, I say to those folks who my mind think exist but I know better, BITE ME...mamas gonna shop...LOL

The bummer part of it is that we don't get to wear the clothes that long before they outgrow us. The great part is we get to shop more....LOL

Oh, you have NO IDEA! I'm almost four years out. Below goal and a size 6-8! AND a shopaholic.

Can you IMAGINE the damage I can do ( and Do) with my Amex card? Just so disgustingly fun!!!!!

Georgia, you said it best! Fat brain still reigns over me! I still think I need to shop in the plus section, and find it foreign to shop in Misses...I'm a size 6 M/S. It funny how we get so used to the way things are/have been and how it takes us so long to adapt. Whenever I try clothes on, I always get a 6,8 and 10, because my Fat Brain says 'A 6 is WAY too SMALL!', guess what, it never is! It's the same way when I go grocery shopping, or cook, or go out and order food at a restaurant. My Fat brain says 'you need MORE' 'That portion is WAY too SMALL!', guess what? I usually have TONS of left-over...I'm almost a year and a half out, am still losing, and still have a VERY Fat brain! Just ignore it, it may never go away, but your body knows better! ;) Congrats on your loss so far!

OMG...my husband is already scared...I do alot of resale but can't resist Old Navy and Kohl's...I do so much damage but it's so fun. I used to not have fun shopping...just bought stuff so I could have clothes..now I shop to be cute...and shoes...let's not even go there. I have grown to love coupons and awesome sales. The hubs just drives and refuses to ask how much I have spent.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
