I can't believe it's only 5 more days to the surgery and my new life! Sunday evening I had a mini anxiety attack thinking about all the changes I was in store for and old friends that struggled with weight related issues and unfortunately did not succeed. I am so glad I have this forum for support! I can't really talk to my family about my decision because they cannot relate/ don't agree. No one is giving me grief, but I can tell they can't get the toll morbid obesity has on me since they see me as perfectly fine in all other areas of my life. If they only knew how food was my coping tool and has led me to this point! (I have hypertension, high cholesterol, and absolutely no energy!).

Anyway, I started my liquids on Monday and had an IVC filter placement early Monday morning (that kinda sucked! I opted for no sedation!) and today I am feeling way more positive! I have a little more energy and I am more focused at work. I'm feeling motivated again and I have most of my preparations in order. Thank goodness for this forum so that I have a place to air my thoughts!

You ladies are the best!!

Green eyed ... Please stay with us, and we can all still check in and support each other ..... This is our little group if 14ers and even though you will have a few things different, recovery will still be tough on all of us and we need to stick together.

Mokamami... Hang in there, I can't imagine a completely unsupportive family. My mom has started doing shakes in the morning...lol! She is already worried if she doesnt try something she will be soooo much bigger than me in a few months.... My kids are very excited as they have seen photos of my "thinner self" and can't wait to see me healthier and happier as I look when smaller.

We are all going through different challenges, but it's nice to know we can reach out to this group.

Getting excited .... Keep up the pre-op and take your Vitamins, we want to be as healthy as possible going into Surg :)

Rhonda

I am also having anxiety because it is right around the corner. A couple of people are giving me a hard time. My DIL disapproves with fast weight loss. I explained that it is a diabetes thing. I need to get into remission ASAP. I have lost 8 lbs in two days (water) and one of my employees said, "see, you could totally do this on your own". I told her I have never had trouble losing Water weight and dieting for two days. I don't think my weight loss in the last two days means I am cured. Sigh. I am glad that I have this forum full of people that get it.

I understand that it is difficult for some people to be supportive of a struggle they don't understand...it's not just a matter of willpower! I'm just going to Celebrate our collective choice to become healthier and live longer and ignore the negativity!

I think my body has gone into starvation mode. I'm following the liquid diet rules, and have lost weight, I guess I was expecting higher numbers. Since Monday I've only lost 3lbs when the first few days I was losing a pound a day. I guess I shouldn't complain but as well all know our emotions can get the best of us. Today's goal is to get in as much Water as possible. I haven't been getting in what I should. Maybe that will help get some Water retention gone and help my feelings. Tonight is my support group meeting for Portion Control. I'm going to miss my oldests TBall game :(

On a good note I'm out of the 240s!!

started my preop diet today- and was so sick =[. what does everyone think about freezing the shakes into popsicles to make them more enjoyable. same thing with Isopure after surgery. i know for me right now its a struggle to even get 30 oz of Water and 1 shake down. i also feel insanely on edge.. like cranky or snappy as well as very out of it and spacey =[. what is everyone going through and feeling during preop?? all my diet consists on is Bariatric Advantage Protein powder yogurt - fatfree broth and Clear liquids.

any recommendations on how to consume this powder? ?

Glad to hear that someone had a similar experience to me! Seems like most say its "not that bad" On day one I was bugging my NUT about the nausea so she might put me in the "whiney baby" category. Lol. I did switch to a different shake every other time. Is there another shake you tried that didnt cause problems? For me the nausea was pretty much gone by day 3 or 4. Your body is in shock and you are detoxing from everything. For me the mental fog still hasnt lifted by day 10 and the crankyness comes and goes. I feel pretty good in the mornings. Find something to chew on. Ice, gum, a straw lol. Its not fun but it can be done. I can see how it not only physically prepares you but starts the mental preparation as well. So stay strong! The nausea should pass! Try mixing the shakes with something you like. I like to mix vanilla powder with Decaf coffee and to rani sugar free caramel Syrup.< /p>

im on day 2 of my preop ive lost 4.6lbs since yesterday morning by only having 3 shakes a day and 80 ounces of Water. im starving and my head is killing me. i never imagined my head would be pounding this bad. im going through all the worst possible cravings and being a nanny and having to prepare dinner for kids doesn't help the slightest. i feel so grouchy and irritable. whenever i try to work out i get really light headed and i dont know why. =[ i find myself doubting my decision bc i am so hungry. anyone going through things like this?

I luckily didn't have a pre op diet! However I can honestly say I'm not hungry at all as I am struggling to get all of my shakes / liquids in... You will be just fine! When you are frustrated picture your skinny self this time next year ! ;)

Good luck & hang in there!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
