Pre-op diet starts on Monday. I've been spending the last 2 days psyching myself up. i'm anxioius about it, but hopeful that I'm prepared enough for all the changes that are going to take place. 15 days and counting!!!

I start Thursday! I wish I started on the weekend instead of on a work day.... Hopefully I'll be so busy that it won't make a difference ( yeah right! Lol) good luck!

I CAN HONESTLY SAY, MY TWO WEEK PRE OP WENT VERY SMOOTHLY. I CHOSE TWO ITEMS FROM MY DR'S WIDE VARIETY OF CHOICES AND ATE ONLY THOSE...TWO TYPES OF SIMPLY COOKED meat AND LOW CARB Protein BARS. I DID NOT ALLOW MYSELF ONE BITE OF ANYTHING ELSE. THE ONLY DIVIATION I ALLOWED MYSELF WAS PRE PLANNED FOR ONE SERVING OF A CERTAIN food ON A CERTAIN DAY AT A CERTAIN PLACE. THAT PLAN WORKED FOR ME.

I'M ON pureed food NOW AND DOING FINE. I'ON DAY 8 OUT TODAY...DR VISIT TOMORROW. LOOKS LIKE DIABETES AND HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE ARE GONE OR CLOSE TO IT. WILL KNOW MORE TOMORROW. PLAN TO HEAD HOME BY SAT., MAYBE SOONER.

BLESSINGS,

KAREN IN THE WOODS OF ALASKA

I am scheduled May 22nd. Trying to prepare everyhing at home and for myself before I go in. I also live about 3 hours away from the hospital. I will have this done on a Thursday but hopefully be home by the weekend if no issues. My kids are 10 & 6 so they will have school to attend. So far I don't know if I will have any other family come except for my husband.

I have noticed a lot making replies that they don't like their Protein shakes. I have not had my surgery yet but wanted to be prepared what the shakes taste I like and experiment with them. Although my first purchase, so far I really like the Designer whey Protein Shakes. I have a nutribullet because I like smoothies and frozen drinks. I mixed mine with vanilla Almond milk so it's not too bad. I'm not sure if this will work out so well after surgery. I did however by Isopure which is a Protein flavored drinks. Comes in a variety of fruity flavors. Will try them soon.

I drink premier Protein shake everyday, and even have tried the bars, I like the shakes better, I also like grape frost Isopure, I plan in buying more isopure in prep for my surgery along with sugarfree pop sickles , I already have the chicken flavor unjury on stand by, 14 days and counting now until my May 5 surgery.

Khmer congrats on your surgery I'm glad your doing great with your recovery I can't wait to join you.

My pre op diet starts on Monday, my surgery is May 12th. I am lucky for my pre op diet I get 3 Meal Replacements ( Protein bars or drinks) and one real food meal per day. I have a list of pre approved foods and amounts for my real food meal. I can snack on raw vegetables and sugar free Jello all I want. I have been trying Protein drinks for the past 3 months. I really like the Syntrax nectar and matrix drinks. I also bought some premade Isopure drinks to have if I need them. I live 2 and a half hours away from the hospital so my husband will be taking me for surgery and staying in Boston with me. My father in law and his wife are coming to stay with our kids while we are gone. Counting down the days!!!!!!!!!!

Pre-op started yesterday. All is good......not bad at all other than some diarrhea, but hopefully that will subside soon. I'm using Premier Protein shakes at work (3) and then I like the unjury Protein (Chocolate and vanilla are both really good) as my last shake. Filling in with lots of s/f Jello and broth. I can't really say that I've been hungry, but clearly lots of action in the tummy the last 2 days. I hope it continues to be this easy. I think one of the keys is keeping my mind busy and not having time to think about what I'm eating......I mean drinking. :)

Have all the early May surgeries started pre-op diets? I'm curious how it's going for everyone else.

Have a great day!!!

I think for me, sitting thinking about what I can't have will psych me out of making good choices. Like tonight I'm not tired at all. Researching ways of what I can eat and thinking a snack sounds good. I am fighting the impulse as I'm trying to put myself in the mindset that in 20 days I start my pre-op diet of meal replacements like frozen weight watchers, lean cuisine with 1/2 cup veggies in broth, Snacks are one piece of fruit, sugar free Jello and Protein Shakes. This week I started small with Protein shakes and timed meals. I'm hoping by the time I do my pre-op 10 day diet I will already be acclimated to reduced eating. So it doesn't hit me all at once.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well. I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening. So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this?? Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
