I got my call this morning. I am on day one of my three day liquid diet. I have to check in at the hospital by 8:30 am Monday morning. That puts surgery around 10:30. So far I have not really been hungry yet. My brother is getting his BA tonight and having an open house tomorrow to Celebrate. I know there will be food at both of these functions so they will probably be the most challenging part of my weekend. I am really nervous about the surgery. I hate the waiting period. But I want this!!!!! I am so ready to be able to live my life again without all the pain that comes from carrying around, what amounts to, an extra person 24X7. That is my driving factor. Everything else that comes with it are bonuses. I have been thinking of all of you who have already had surgery this week. Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with the rest of us. It does help. It amazes me how different all the doctors are when it comes to the recommendations for pre-op dieting. My dr asked me to go on a high protein/low carbohydrate diet a month ago. I have lost close to 15 pounds on that. Now the 3 day liquid diet. I am interested to see how much I lose in three days. The nurse at the hospital recommended wearing the clothes to the hospital that I will be wearing home. To wear something comfortable and easy on/off. I will be doing laundry and packing my bag Sunday. Sounds like I won't need a very big bag. LOL

Good luck MissCindy. We all have our fears but I agree with you. I've been sick for so long and I'm tired of this. I've been through cancer and I didn't beat that to be this sick again from horrible GERD which is preventing me to do anything. This is my breakthrough moment to a better life for me and family. We are making this a family event and getting back on track. Keeping my fingers crossed we can hold it together for the long haul.

Yes!!! I'm so happy to have made it through this week. I have so much to do over the next few days. What are you going to take with you to the hospital?

Not to much stuff. I always over pack. So just a few must haves. Clean clothes, hairbrush, hairband, iPod, magazines. Toothbrush, toothpaste, a lil makeup for the way home. And a pillow for the ride. You??

Hi all, I'm post op 4 days. Doing well with my liquids all though I feel very full all the time. Feel just a bit sore when I use my abdominal muscles for something. I ended up with 6 incisions. No nausea, only taking pain meds at night to help me sleep. Up to 20 min in walking about 3 times a day. Cooked a spaghetti meal today including biscuits for my family. Was a little hard but I did it and sat there sipping my broth. Feel a little down today but think I need to get out of the house for a while.

They sent me some links for some classes which I watched, but I just still feel so ill prepared. I guess I will have a nutrition class the day before my surgery. I have been looking online also and have found some sites that helped. I wanted to also get others personal experiences and advice, anything that will help me on this journey.

I think coming here and talking about it will help. Not sure if this will help but I found this blog. Gives some great ideas on diet on each phase but I know doctors will direct you what to eat too. http://milestogo.squarespace.com

Thank you for the info I appreciate it :)

Have done really well on preop until tonight :-(. I had the most obvious emotional eating experience after Grad class when some uncomfortable exchanges occurred. I have never been more aware of reaching for food because of anger. I have to look at this as an ah ha moment and not a moment of failure. Hard for us perfectionists.

Tomorrow is another day and I now know to be more mindful of my feelings and their correlation with food.

May 20 th can't come soon enough!

I let myself get too hungry today and ate something that wasn't on my list. Hopefully it wasn't too bad.

I'm glad you took yours as a learning experience. I need to do the same.

I don't really know. I know I have to take my CPAP and I want to take some stretchy mesh shorts for comfort. My phone and toiletries... that's about it. I know I'm gonna want more than that though. The hospital is an hour from my house, so I'm a little afraid I'm going to forget something important.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
