Anyone having surgery in May

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery this past Monday. Of course I think it will pay off but my experience was a little different. I had to stay in surgery an extra hour because my fatty liver was a bit larger than they anticipated so it was a bigger task to keep it up and lifted out of the way. My surgeon was determined to keep it laparoscopic which I am so thankful for. A total of 4 incisions...one with a drain. I am a size 18 right now. I was in a pretty good amount of pain but I can't handle the heavy painkillers only Vicodin. I had what felt like heartburn for 2 days which they said could be residual acid and sure enough it went away. The incision they used the most burns inside and the other ones itch a bit now. I had nausea for the first 4 days but meds took care of that. I was in the hospital a little over 72 hours. I have been doing my walking at home. It gets a bit easier every day. I love the abdominal binder the hospital gave me in fact I asked for another one and got it. Fits under the breast down to about the top of the pubic bone. I am already off 3 meds and monitoring at home. Yeah! I am up to 60 ounces of Fluid a day and about 50 grams of Protein but still trying to get in more protein.

This has not been easy post op. I had surgery May 8 so I'm post op day 4. I am no where close to meeting my Protein intake yet, I'm getting Water down a little better but not where I should be. I have a constant feeling of being so full/ over stuffed that's it's hard to sip anything. I had 2 teaspoons of Tomato Soup yesterday for variety ( I was put on full liquids on day 2), the Soup was gross, it's weird but this surgery does change the way food tastes. I have done some walking, my energy levels are still low. I have my one week follow up this Friday I hope things are better by then, I'm supposed to try to eat a couple bites of an egg before I go in. I hope you're all doing well & good luck to you all having surgery this week!!

I never comprehended how we are suppose to get protein in when it's a clear liquid diet for 7 days(for me anyways)

My surgery is Monday at 7:30am. I am getting very nervous and excited all at the same time. I can hardly believe it is this close. I went today and had my hair done and got a pedicure as my mother's day gift from my family. I have been on my pre op diet since the 28th of April and have done very well with it. All the nervousness is getting to me. Really need some encouragement.

Good Luck Kraeok!

I had my surgery on May 9, was discharged from the hospital yesterday. This is surely harder than I expected, I think I have a rather high tolerance to pain but this is rough. I'm experiencing pretty much the same thing as joleneB...feeling over full & bloated just trying to get my liquid down. I'm supposed to have 1 oz every thirty minutes for the remainder of today, then start the full liquid diet tomorrow. I bought Nature's Best protein powder; it has 50g of protein per 12 oz, I tried it pre-surgery and it actually tastes ok! I can't drink it yet post-surgery, I have a fruit flavored clear Protein Powder from the weight loss center that, unfortunately, only has 15g of protein per 8 oz, but that's all I'm allowed to have right now. Just trying today to get close to my protein requirement. I'm holding on to the hope that every day, every hour this gets easier.

Tomorrow is the big day! 6am!! Thankfully my dr only makes you do a 24 preop diet of clear liquids.... Soup get boring! Not being able to chew actual food is hard. And the magnesium citrate is for the birds! But it will all pay off in the long run!! Eeeekk I'm excited!! Finger crossed!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
