mommytokk-

You and I both know that Spivak's instructions include that daily glass of wine! I'm positive I read that somewhere, didn't I??? I'm sure it's somewhere on those papers - if not, my sharpie is ready to write!

I too thought it would be easier at work yesterday and I certainly am not looking forward to doing it all over again today. When I got home last night I fixed me a bowl of cream of chicken Soup and it tasted so good I ate too much and too fast. (my first time doing such a thing). I felt so bad, I kept walking and walking trying to ease the discomfort. My husband kept asking me whats happening, whats going on? I got the giggles and told him I had over eaten and ate too fast that Soup I had made, and I guess we all have to experiance that at least once with our band. Laughing and walking around the house at midnight was much better than crying!

I hope I learned my lesson, it was very uncomfortable and my chest still hurts a bit this morning.

Post-Op day 16.

I went for my 2 week appointment and have lost 13lbs! I spoke briefly with the dietician and she said I could do mushies. I have eaten refried Beans and dinner last night was 1/2 cup of cottage cheese with pureed peaches - yummy. Tomorrow I attend a nutrician class. Incisions are looking good and I will be going back to work on Friday and I will be getting my kids back home tonight. On Monday(Memorial day) I took the kids to Disneyland and used the stroller to lean on but got tired quickly. I went on one slow ride and covered my port in case the vehicle moved to fast. It was really great to be out and with my children and doing what we normally do. I was SO happy to be in the magic kingdom I cried a little bit, mostly because a few months ago it was getting difficult to walk long distances and with my band I am feeling so much better.

Everyone here seems to be doing fabulous -- keep up the great work!

I have been kinda of hesistate of posting my banding experience. But I don't regret having lap band done. I am going to make a long story short. My liver was clipped during surgery lost a lot of blood and they lost my blood pressure for about 90 seconds. Besides that the dr. said that my band was placed beatuiful on my stomach. I am very thankful for my surgereon. He placed me in ICU for the night and came and saw me all of the time. Plused checked on my at home the next couple of days. I stayed home one more week. since I am very tired and weak still from the amount of blood I lost. But I have been concentracting on getting better and while dueing that lost another 8 pounds. I go to my doctors today. I am still have my shoulder pain but not as sharp. And my throat feels like a knife is shoved down it. And a little soar in places. But he told me to take it real easy for the 2-3 weeks. But as I said in the begining I would do it again if I had to.

I have no idea what to eat! I am very frustrated! I had mash potatoes for lunch today about 4 bites and 2 bites of mac and chesse. My daughter came to work with me today and we had lubys for lunch. I did chew up some shrimp and had no problem getting it down...I peeled all the crust off of it and chewed the hell at out it. I need some kind of food input, menue, advise. Mushies????

I have been on mushies for the past two weeks. I have had the following:

tuna, onion, pickle juice, lite mayo - blended

The same as tuna but with chicken. Once I even smashed a cracker up in it real good.

Potatoe salad - blended

Husband BBQed pork ribs - put some in the chopper, little BBQ Sauce and it was real good.

Oh one of my fav. was - take sugar free whipped cream, spread it in a bowl and freeze it - make FF -SF instant pudding and pour in it, drizzle a little cho. Syrup on it and it is soooo good. Put you Protein powder in the pudding and you have a good source of your Protein for the day.

White Beans cooked in Ham bullion - soo good, cooked real soft, they smash real easy and have a very good flavor

Just a few thing that helped me along the way. Good Luck.

Okay I am going to try to ask this again because I have also posted it on two different threads and no one will reply

How long was it when the swelling and pain in your port area went away? I am a week post op it feels fine in the morning and as the day goes on it gets worse. I am tired of hurting, I just want it to get back to normal. I am sorry I am having a pitty party for myself today and no one cares.

I responded to you some time ago and said that I was banded on 5/14 and I'm still a little sore but no pain...

susaninnkc,

I am SOOOO sorry to hear of your complications. You sure do have a great attitude, and I am SURE you will heal soon. Please take care of yourself!

ragdoll,

I really didn't experience any port pain OR swelling. My port is about 2 inches below my bra, smack dab in the middle! I know a lot of people have the port on the side...I wonder if one is more uncomfortable than the other??? Have you tried OTC pain meds, like liquid Tylenol?? Or is it even the kind of pain that is fixed by that?? (I feel like if you have muscle pain, ie if it hurts when moving, the pain meds dull it, but doesn't take it away). Either way, I sure hope you feel better soon. And you have every right to have a big 'ol pity party!! You have been through a lot, and deserve some slack! Keep your chin up, and good luck!

Samiam,

I think you're right!! I DID read something in Dr. Spivak's info about a recommended glass of wine, or was it a margarita?? or was it a dream??

Hey I really feel all your pain on the eating thing.. Cottage cheese seems to go a long ways as well as putting fruit in your Protein Shakes. Beans Beans and more beans helps but also has side effects. GAS X I so know the unconfort feeling of having 1 bite to many. I'm still not good at telling when I should stop though. I can't believe that even my 3yr old is eating way more then I. It's not normal to have anything left on the plate or in the bowel. I have started using a small spoon for serving my beans and etc. I have also noticed that the mini serving of cottage cheese is just enough to last 4-5 hours. Can't believe it. It has 11 grms of Protein though. Pretty good for the size. You all who could actually follow the preop diets you Rock!! I could not. So I have only lost the Water weight10-12 pounds. But I know that with the portions being consumed the weight will magically fall of next month. Resist the urge of stepping on the scale but once a week. I know it's hard but it will help with the your morale. EVery One Keep up the Good work... I also feel you on the whole Hamburger thing.. Moderation and most likely one bite is all you will be able to eat.. Husband banded last month eats the little one every now and again. Only gets down half with no bread

Sorry RagdollX19 I also responded but just learned how to actually quote on this thing. I was banded on the 18th. Still have not really pain but discomfort throughout the day especially if I drink to quickly or eat a little to much. The tylenol really helps with this discomfort though. I have been back at work since the 22nd and still have periods where I need to stretch and move around to help stay comfortable. Especially where my bra rubbs on one of the incisions from my tummy pushing it up when I sit. Hopefully this will soon pass. It is not unbearable though if you are in unbearable pain I would definatly call the Doc and have him check you out.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
