twinmommy - I see we are real close on the weight loss. I'm just a bit jealous that you are doing better. I feel like the 'litttle train that could' most of the time, slowly chugging up the hill but never going very fast. I have 17 pounds more and I will feel like I achieved what I set out to do. Another 20 pounds after that will get me to my dream goal but I don't really care if that takes another year. I'm still walking three days a week and doing weights two days. On the weekends I just try to stay active doing something.

I really struggle with the "oh you look great" so I guess I can eat chocolate syndrome. Heard of that one? I'm going to meet with the nutritionist soon to review my food choices and come up with a plan to get back on track.

Sue - Came to work and made a Protein Shake...first swallow..PB'd it. I guess this is why I don't like to eat in the morning it is so tight. But I am taking tiny little sips and it is staying down now...although..my band is doing the weird squealing thing...and bubbles.

mini - what is the weird squealing thing? Does it actually make noise? My band is so tight in the morning that I can only do hot Protein chocolate. I pretend it is a mocha or hot chocolate. I am used to the taste now and actually like it. The cold shakes are a lot harder for me to get down. Even the hot I have to sip and wait . . . at least for the first few sips to go down and stay down.

Wenjea

Well, I guess the liguid gets stuck on top of my band and just starts making these ridiculously loud squeals while it is trying to get down.

Now are you saying I should try heating my shakes up? I never thought of that. I wonder if that would work. kinda like hot chocolate. And I always seem to get my coffee down in the morning. Hmm. is there a mocha flavored Protein Drink that heats up without clumping?

Thank you! Actually I'm going again today for a trim... and my Valentines Day gift... a 90 minute hot stone massage!!

Mini.... I just found the info I was looking for about the high temps breaking down protein... it suggests using liquids that are less than 130F.

Melissa,

So I shouldn't try heating the shakes up? And..your hair is adorable!

I got a new hair color myself last week. I have always been a boxed blonde ever since my hair turned dish Water blonde...in my teens...I went and had it foiled with lots of browns and just a few blonde highlights. I really like it allot. I get allot of compliments...and I like the fact that my eyes are a prettier color of green against the brown hair.

I once went red and loved it too! I was secretly facinated with those hot pink hair color examples they had hanging up to pick you color off of. Oh, if only I was in my 20's again and braver!

Weazer...

You just can't use boilng Water to make the shakes, it will let you know if the water is too hot, it will curdle. I would heat the water first then put the powder in. I use my instant hot, in a cold mug it seems to cool the water just enought to not curdle the protien powder. I like to add a spoonful of Intenational coffee FF SF vanilla coffe mix and/or a shot of SF syrups (english toffee is killer!), it's my morning mocha everyday. I have trouble with cold stuff in the AM too, but the hot drink slides right down.

Instant Hot is my little hot Water tap at my sink. It instantly gives water that is just bellow boiling. It's so great for my morning drinks, hot tea and I also grab a cup of hot water before any meal...just to make sure the band is loose, it sure makes a huge difference. That way I'm able to eat when I've prepaired good food, then I get a "tummy full" at meals and I stay full longer...keeps me from wanting to snack so much.

I've really run into problems with snacking when I don't loosen my band before eating because I can only eat a few bites, just like they say, but I'm hungry again in an hour. I do so much better when I can eat about 1 1/2 cups of food for a good solid meal, otherwise I'm hungry, grumpy, feeling deprived and I want to snack all the time! This is what works for me...everybody's got to find thier tricks. I do think that at least getting a protien drink in the morning is really important, skipping Breakfast is so bad for the metabolism, and I was not a breakfast eater before band. I enjoy my morning "mocha"

Sue

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
