May 2007 Banders

Recommended Posts

I spent the morning at the hospital emergency room in a great amount of shoulder pain. It's seems I pulled a major tendon in all the packing and loading of the moving truck Wednesday. After two sleepless nights I went in at 5am this morning. I am now sporting a sling for a week and pain meds and muscle relaxers. If it is still painful on Monday they will give me a cortizone shot in it. What we do for our kids!

My blood pressure was way up from being in pain. Have you ever heard of that?

Macysgranny - way to go on your weight loss, you must be doing everything right!

So sorry about the pain, Hope you get to feeling better. I have heard of blood pressure being up because of pain. I hurt my knee, it was very painful. went to the doc and my pressure was up. He said it was common.

Hope you get to feeling better, Take care of yourself............

Wenjea,

Sorry about the pain...at least you have the pain meds to help you along. Hopefully it will heal on it's own and you won't need the cortizone shot. It may take 2-3 months though before it feels right again...maybe longer. I am prone to injury in my shoulders and arms when I weight lift so I know what it feels like and that it takes along time to heal.

Blessings,

Weazer

Wenjea- yes, BP will increase with pain.. or any other kind of stress on your body (mental and physical!!) take it easy for a few days!

Mini- OMG.. yes, Jordan (my daughter) is back to her old 12 year old self... I get a text message from her after my interview asking if her friend could stay over another night. I get home and she asks for $ to walk up to the local pizza place, asks if I can give her a ride to the mall..... yup. back to the old Jordan.

Sandra- Yup, I'm short.. 5'2... as short as I am wide! HA! I bought the 16's. I did find a short size...the regular ones were honestly like 8 inches too long! My wedding gown has to be hemmed like 5+ inches! And heels?? No can do... I'm not graceful by any means.. and broke my left foot 2 years ago.. since then its hard to find even a cute flat that wont hurt me.

Wenjea......I hope your shoulder gets better soon. I am sure that is very painful! Make sure you do not overdo it.....rest (for a change)!!! You deserve it!

Melissa, good luck with the second interview!!We are all rooting for you!

Now for me......I have not lost anything in 1-1/2 weeks!!! I am going to try liquids to see if I can jump start this again. I have not done anything bad as far as food.....maybe a baked potato here and there but as a whole meal! One day I had a PB & J and could eat the whole thing, not just half so maybe its time for a fill?????

I hate not losing!!!!!But I have to say "Life is Good" I do not want to whine, things could be worse. Thanks for listening.....Maureen

Wenjea-

It's good to have you back my band sister! Sorry about your pain.

The weight loss is going good. I have not lost anything in ten days. Loving the gym! I tend to loose like ten lbs. in two weeks, then nothing for two weeks. Whatever! I am at 1.8cc's and really have to chew a lot to not have problems with my food. I don't know if I should get another fill or not.

Sounds like your weight loss is going well also!

I like the idea of an anniversary shopping trip!

Hi everyone.. it's been a long time. My mother-in-law was diagnosed with a brain tumer (Gioblastoma Malforme) that will take her life within the next 4-6 weeks, so I haven't had time to check-in with you guys in a while now.

I just had my 2nd fill on Weds and think I am finally feeling the real "bandster" world when it comes to food. I can hardly eat anything without it hurting. I am hoping this is just due to it still being so new and it will ease up in another week or so. Before my fill I was able to eat anything in small quantities. But now, even 4 fries from McDonalds hurt!!! (I was craving something salty and it was there...)

I hope everyone is enjoying their new journey with the band as I have been. Enjoy you week and I hope to be around more often.

Kitty

I went through the same thing with my last fill and everything I ate hurt or came back up. I was overfilled. I suffered with it for almost 3 weeks before I went back to get an unfill. I go back on Tuesday to get some of what was taken out put back in. If it lasts very long I would go back to your doctor.

Hello All.

So great to hear that so many of our May bandsters are doing so well.

I've been stuck for a while now... no loss, but no gain either. I've had two fills and this 2nd one (3 weeks ago) has been difficult. Several episodes of PBing. Foods that worked yesterday don't work today. Just feeling frustrated.

I can get usually get Protein shakes, yogurt (tough in the morning), mixed fruit, nonfat pudding, Soups, nutrition bars, chili to go down (and stay there!). But I worry that I'm going to get into a soft food syndrome.

Before I was banded, I had to do a medically-supervised diet. I worked with a nutrionist and lost 50 lbs. I was really doing well on the program and hoped to be able to stay on it with the band. An important component was eating 9 oz of Protein per day. So, I would generally have 4 oz of chicken in a salad at lunch and 5 oz (chicken/fish at dinner). Well, chicken is now impossible to get down. I have even been having trouble with fish. And I know that that amount of food at one sitting is too much for the band! Sure I can get the protein in a shake, but the band is designed to work best with solid foods so that we maintain a 'full' feeling for as long as possible. So, I'm just stymied!

I've gone back to taking a Multivitamin, Calcium, Vitamin C and Vitamin B complex (all nutrionist recommended). But, I have to say I'm feeling like a big loser (and not the kind I want to be!) that I can't seem to get this to work. My doc is so supportive, but at the end of the day, it's about me and my commitment to working with the band.

Sorry to be so down today, but I think I just need to vent and perhaps someone has some words of wisdom (or a kick in the ass!) for me. Maybe I just need a fresh start.

Margaret

Hey Ragdoll.....I have been here in spirit!!! My DH does the same as yours...I get excited if I lose weight and he says "why are you surprised, isn't that what is supposed to happen" but what he does not realize because he has never had a weight problem is that yes....I do get surprised! I have not been very successful in the past and so every pound is a blessing!!!!! You are doing great, your pictures show a big difference.....way to go!

Nimblebean, I do not know but it sounds to me like you need an unfill. You should be able to get in some solid Protein and not have to live on liquids. Do not be so hard on yourself....it takes time to get to that sweet spot that everyone talks about......You are down nearly 70lbs!!! You should give yourself a pat on the back! I know its frustrating.....but it will happen for all of us eventually.

All the best......Maureen

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
