My doctor said since I am on two meds a day for reflux that the sleeve wasn't a good option for me. It doesn't resolved the reflux and could make it worse. Anyone have severe reflux and had the sleeve? How is the reflux now??

Had begun to have some issues with it at my heaviest weight but wasn't on meds for it(other than some over the counter stuff). Since surgery I am on meds for it. I'm 11 months out and still have to continue them.

{Raises hand}

My issue was a hiatal hernia. Reflux was a constant in my life. I had a container of tums sitting next to my bed. For no additional charge, my surgeon repaired my hiatal hernia. I have only taken a PPI once since being sleeved. It was when I worked late one night, came home and had a bite to eat and went straight to bed. That was my fault.

So, keep doing research. My guess is your Dr read a paper talking about some folks still suffering from reflux and made some general conclusions. I was a daily PPI taker and now two and half years post, I have only taken it once.

I was sleeved five months ago and down over 100 pounds since day of surgery. I NEVER had reflux UNTIL I had the surgery. Even on meds and it's a constant thing. Never had this problem till after surgery. Got rid of all my other diagnosis for most part, but added on the good ol reflux!

My doc asked me upfront and I said yes I take prilosec 2 times a day. He then said some people have problems after sleeve with terrible reflux. He said he wanted to check me out first with the camera going down in your stomack. There was a large hi a tel hernia. He fixed it during my surgery. I have not had to take one pill or Evan a tum! I was cured!

I had it before and ibs before was told by my doc these reason is why he felt bypass wasn’t a good idea for me, which was fine by me as I never wanted that but one other doc tried to push it on me.
I take 2 tabs for acid a day unless I forget then its one lol
But I was on 1 a day before and drinking some kind of indigestion/acid sootier as and when I needed it which was A LOT.
I would wake up before choking on it and sometimes I do now if I fall asleep close to eating or drinking and didn’t take my pill but its way way better.
I also had my gallbladder out a couple of years before the op that’s when my acid increased dunno if the whole time I was dealing with it and all the bile/gall Fluid going into my stomach making me puke a lot started my issue but it has been ever since then!
So its way less for me now and no ibs *touch wood* which is a good side effect of the op for me!

It's really tempting to glean through the experiences of others, but everyone has a different outcome. I never had reflux pre-op, now I do and don't expect it to subside any time soon. Others had it previously and it diminished, or never had it and still don't. I take a daily PPI and it's not a perfect solution, but I live with it because getting the surgery was still the right choice for me in the long run, despite a few minor side effects. If you have severe acid reflux or GERD, it's probably worth looking into gastric bypass. Of course that procedure has it's own pro's and con's. Ultimately it's about weighing the potential positives and negatives. No longer being obese is just about the most positive and important outcome there is, and no doubt it will improve the quality of your life.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
