I was banded by Dr Clarey on 4/20/07. I have briefly met only one other that was banded there and personally know two that had the RNY there. Anybody on here from Dayton?

I really like DB and so far I am doing great with the weight loss. I'm seeing the inches melt away way before I see the pounds drop. I've already dropped one pant size. :whoo:

I decided it last year it was about time I got the weight off permanently. I have 5 grandkids and couldn't run after them. My, then 2 year old, Granddaughter got away from me at a park and ran toward the street. I couldn't get to her in time and it scared me to death. We were lucky there were no cars around at the time. This year is MY year. I'm doing things that make ME happy and healthier.

My Log in name is the same as my Geocaching name. Anyone interested in it can email me or check it out at Geocaching.com. It can be a good way to get some excercise while having fun.

Good Luck to ALL!

Hi Donna and congratulations on your new journey! Where did you have your banding done? I work at GSH and work on the bariatric/surgery floor. This is a wonderful place to come for questions and support. Anything you have wanted to know you can find here and if one person doesnt know the answer then someone will or we will help you find it. Again Congratulations! Are you going to the support groups that Dr Clarey and Dr Bruce have set up? Have they started a seperate one for just banding patients yet? I had two patients this past week who said that they still didnt have too many people with the band in attendance there and that they are mostly rny. Hope to talk to you soon!

I had mine done at Southview Hosp. it was a little closer to home. Dr Clarey and Dr Bruce do such a good job of informing patients that I couldn't think of hardly any questions then or now. I recommend them to everyone. I have been to one support group meeting so far. It's hard for me to get away at the times they have them. It's about a 40 mile trip for me. So far they have not added the banded only group. When I went to the meeting there were only a couple getting ready to be banded, none that had been banded. One of my work contacts at FedEx and I were talking last week and I discovered that she had the RNY bu Dr Clarey 2 years ago. We may try attending the meetings together.

They treated me great there. Everyone was wonderful, even the aide I had. She kept checking on me and asking questions about the surgery and what I expected when I got home. She was really interested and caring. I have had 5 other surgeries and this was by far (if you can call them enjoyable) the best experience I had. I do recommend Southview to anyone!

Hi Donna,

Where in Dayton do you live? I'm in Beavercreek. I havn't gone to the support groups for my surgeon because they are at an inconvient time for me. I havn't done formal exersise yet because I'm doing that ''sandwich generation " thing right now. My dad is slipping into dementia (i nipped his car keys last night, he shouldn't be driving) and I still have three kids at home (high school). sigh

It would be nice for us Datonians to get together sometime, yes?

Sorry Annie, I live in Hamilton. Right now I'm walking at nights with my boyfriend. I'd like to find someone close to home that could Geocache, walk or ride bikes with me. I'm not back on my bike as of yet, but plan to be in the next few weeks when the weather decides it's not going to be cold for a few months.

Sounds like you have your hands full! I have two kids that are grown with kids of their own (5 Grandkids). My Mom is in bad health and her husband is almost blind. Makes you apprciate your health!

Hi ... I havent been banded yet....sighsssssssssssss....but hope to have the okay from my insurance co soon. I am also going to Dr Clarey/Dr Bruce for mine. Glad to hear it has gone so well for you. I went to 2 of the support group meetings and would like to make it to more and will try when I can. However my employment requires me to travel a lot so the times/days do not always work out so well for me. I am going to try to make it to the meeting in Kettering that the group on this site is putting together. Take care and good luck

Susan

I will be banded 4/13/07 by Dr. Mobley at the Cincinnati Weitht loss center. I am scared to death!!:nervous

What are you scared of? The surgery or life after being banded. This was my 6th surgery, I had already had and appendectomy, 2 carpel tunnel releases and both knees operated on (and gave birth to 2 kids). This was the easiest of all! Life after is GREAT! There are a few things you have to totally give up and a few habits you change, but it isn't that bad. I'm not three weeks into having the band and I love it. I just got back from Easter Brunch at Holiday Inn. I had salmon, green Beans, a tad of sweet potato casserole and a taste of a few other items. I left feeling full and satisfied. Not only that, but we only paid for a childs meal for me. I have not had any cravings since the surgery and my energy level has been overall wonderful. Only two days did I feel tired and that was early on when I don't think I was getting enough calories. A little apple juice and I was up and going again. All I can think is, Why didn't I do this SOONER!

Good Luck and please keep in touch!

Donna

The surgery itself went great...... So hows are you doing with the eating restriction? :hungry: . I guess I am doing so so :kiss . Are you experiencing any pains etc.? My large incision feels like I have a baseball under it...... hoping its just scar tissue  . I do hope everything is going well for you.

Hi Chris!

The eating restriction hasn't been bad for me. At this point I need a fill. I'll be calling and setting up an appointment today. Day by day it got easier to eat just don't push yourself too fast toward solid foods.

I too had a large mass under my large incision. It has gone down by about 85%. I can feel where my port is, but it's not like it sticks out or would be noticable by anyone else. I can also sleep on my stomach without feeling it.

I feel on top of the world...and you will too!

Keep in touch!

Donna

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
