Have you attending a WLS seminar and had a consultation with a surgeon? Usually people have to attend nutrition classes, complete a psychiatric evaluation, have medical tests (blood work, ultrasound, sleep study) before insurance approves them for surgery. Your insurance should be able to tell you what requirements they have.

Good luck on your weight loss journey!

My surgeon schedules 2-3 weeks out from insurance approval date. However, insurance approval is a bit of a hurdle. I would call your insurance company and see what your requirements are. I had to have 6 months of physician supervised diet, among other things.

Here's what my doctor says is step one:

Step 1: Verify Your Benefits.Phone the member services number on your insurance card to verify if you have bariatric surgery coverage. The primary diagnosis code is 278.01 (morbid obesity) and the related surgery codes are listed below:

43644 – Gastric Bypass
43770 – Adjustable Gastric Banding
43775 – Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG)
43845 – Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch
43860 – Revision

Hope that helps!

I met with my surgeon on Friday.. I've completed all my tests and all my nutrition meetings as well as meeting the weight loss requirements for my insurance. We are officially submitting to insurance for approval and I was given a surgery date of January 16th 2020 (13 days before my birthday!) Fingers crossed all goes through

Ok, now im getting old...my body gets me up at my normal 5am dog walk even when it's the weekend, vacation, and most importantly when I'm sick. So now that I have more energy, my body wants to make sure I suffer even longer during the day when I have a cold! Damn being healthy again! (:D)
