I have been trying recipes before I have my surgery. My Dr. does things different. No pre-op diet and right after hospital is full liquid. So thinned out Soups and yogurts and Protein Shakes.

I made a Protein pudding and then froze it in ice cube trays it is like a fudge sickle.

I know after having my c-sections popsicles seemed to help me so going to hopefully use this too!

It was one large box of sugar free pudding(choc)

3 cups of 1% milk

3 scoops of choc protien mix.

(I saw this on Pinterest)

Another Soup recipe I made was cream of mushroom with milk and added 1 cup of blended cottage cheese. Then strain so no mushroom pieces. It taste homemade because had a sour cream taste. It added more protein.

Hope these can helps some of you

Hello. I had my surgery yesterday @ 9:00am. Have been in quite a bit of pain since I woke up. They have been giving me diludad about every 2 hours. Seems to help pretty quickly but starts wearing off after about an hour & 30 min. I got up & started walking about 2 hours after I got in my room. Try to walk right after each pain shot b4 falling back asleep. I'll update u all soon. Going to try resting a lil bit :) xoxo

Dilaudid does work for that instant relived but I may have to stay an extra day since I have not had a bowel movement . My doct is very cautious and that's what I like. I just passed gas throughout the night so now I took milk of mag again to help with my bowels. It's my first surgery and I know dilaudid can cause Constipation so I'm going to slow it down for a bit . I will keep posted when my doc comes in

I am just checking in. Had the band removed and a conversion to a bypass on Thursday 4/3. Feeling so much more human today. Pain is rapidly going away. I am taking liquid Percocet just 2 x a day now. All the Fluid I gained at the hospital is also going away.... Very slowly. Trying to keep up with the fluids. That is the hardest part. My day consists of drinking and going to the bathroom. Sorry if that is TMI. I go to the surgeon on Thursday to get the drain out. The drain just freaks my husband out. He cannot get his mind around a tube that is sewn into you and is supposed to leak out stuff. Needless to say I handling my own dressing changes.

Wishing all who have had surgery speedy recovery and for those anticipating surgery best wishes!!

Good Morning jkppt, don't worry about your hubby he really cares for you and supports you men are just extra squemish about stuff like this and emotionally they can't handle it. Thank God you are strong enough to do this for yourself as I know I will be if I have to do any dressing changes after my surgery. I'm glad to know that you are doing well thus far and I pray that each day gets easier for you. God bless!!!

Good morning Crissy, it's great that you are feeling ok except for the gas pressure, that's to be expected. Are you able to walk around yet? If so that's a very good way to get things moving around in your intestines that the gas pressure may be released along with the pain. My prayers are always with you, God bless.

Thank you so much!! It is getting easier each day. I could really use the extra set of hand from my husband though as it is hard to the dressing change on yourself! Hopefully you will not have a drain. That has been the most uncomfortable for me as it tugs when I move and last night it leaked and soaked the dressing. Tube is still in place and I cannot wait to get it out on Thursday.

Jennie

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
