Had surgery 4 days ago. How long does gas pain last?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I just had lap band surgery on February 5, 2014. The biggest pain I am having is bloating and gas, for which I am taking gas-x strips. It is pretty painful though, and I was wondering if any of you could share how long this initial gas discomfort lasts?

i had gallbladder surgery last monday. the 3rd and they use the same procedure for this surgery as the lapband. i woke to an unexplained sharp pain just above my hip bone on the left side. i assume it is the gas. it will dissipate so use a heating pad where it is hurting and lay on the side of the pain when you are laying down. it helps. get well soon.

I had my surgery on Jan. 30th, and had a lot of pain. The first day the pain was almost unbearable. I actually still have a bit of gas pain, but it's tolerable. I had a really terrible pain in my left shoulder that felt like someone was stabbing me.

After about 6 or 7 days the pain really lessened.

Walking really helped me, and the heating pad is a great suggestion -- soothing. I also felt much better after I was able to go to the bathroom. Needed a little help with that even though I didn't take narcotics. Hope you're feeling better soon!

I was banded on Thursday the 6th....yes..gas and Constipation. Someone told me to get the gas x chewable tablets...I have some...helped a little. I have had to take Sena to get things moving...that has helped...I'm hoping to use my psyillium powder tonight. I haven't been able to take pain meds...with nothing but broth or sf Jello on my stomach...those would really cause a problem. I am walking 10 minutes a day on my treadmill...probably should do more...

I had my lap band on Jan 30th and still have gas pain. Drinking warmed up diluted apple juice has helped me. Good luck

My gas pains stayed for about a week. Walking helps alot. Taking your gas meds, and heating pads, too. I found that the shoulder pain, came about a week into recovery and lasted longest. Best wishes, and congrats on your surgery.Karen..aka.kll724

I was banded in 2007 and was better in about a week. I just had my band repositioned yesterday and gained 6 lbs in a day. I have, I guess it's gas pain, at the top of my shoulders/neck area. My tummy feels bloated. Hope this leaves soon.

Thanks again to all of you who wrote. I found that walking and a heating pad both really helped. It has now been 2-1/2 weeks and I am happy to say that the gas pain has gone.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
