Pre op liquid hell

Recommended Posts

I am on day two of all liquids and I am losing it! I have no energy and I just want to start crying and then sleep for two days! This is really inconvienant since I am at work. Ugh is there anything I can do? I am drinking fluids in addition to my Protein Shakes and Fiber supplements, I just don't know what to do I really feel terrible and like a total baby.

I am not sure how long you have to be on a liquid diet or what the restrictions are for you. My pre op liquid diet was only 4 days and I had no calorie restrictions-- just had to be no sugar and low fat. The first 2 days were tough-- but I kep reminding myself that I needed to follow my doctor's instructions to make sure things went well for me. I was sleeved on Monday and it went great-- I am glad I followed the instructions. It is HARD-- and can be frustrating--- but nothing worth having comes easily. Hang in there!

The first few days are the toughest, your body is withdrawing from carbs/sugar on top of you limiting calories. Try and focus on the end game here. You are doing what you need to ensure you are in the best shape possible for your surgery. Everyone's doctor gives different instructions for various reasons. It is always best to stick to what your doctor prescribed. If you are really struggling, call your NUT. Work with them to find a good balance. It is not forever, you can do this. Get into your good habits now, stay strong. Best of luck to you.

I understand. I am doing a 14 day pre-op liquid diet. I wanted to kill everyone the first 2 days. I had a headache from hell. Trust me it gets better. I am now 3 days away. My energy came back around day 5. I wanted to go to bed at 5 pm everyday. just keep it up. You will start to feel better soon.

Good Luck:)

Since I had the surgery 10 wks ago, I never felt like I have been on a diet. I mean I have changed my eating habits completely, its just never felt like a diet. Maybe because I have only felt hungry once or twice. So just think of the pre op DIET as your last DIET.

What they all said. Just keep thinking......."after all this waiting, this is the final stretch. Don't blow it. I want a good outcome to my surgery.....I can do this.....only a few more days......eat a Popsicle.....get busy doing something to take my mind off of it"

We all made it..... you will too.

I haven't started my two month pre-op (I am 2 months away). My Nut had my start with two liquid days per week from now till pre-op liquids. Liquid days are hard for me too though. Does any one know of good sub-foods? Like my Nut said eat two popiscles and one Jello on liquid days. But I just realized why I hate Jell-o too sweet and weird constancy. Popsicles are too cold in this radical winter weather we have been have in Chicago. Can I have sugar free hard candies? Maye chicken broth?

I felt better at about day 4 - I felt human again at day 5.

It's going to suck - keep your eye on the prize. Be as patient with people as you can be. It will be over soon and a distant memory.

One thing that helped me was Decaf green tea (I wasn't allowed caffeine). I drank a lot of green tea.

Best of luck to you and hang in there! This is just one of the steps in a very long journey.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone! I know it's worth it, and I have stayed on track. I did leave work early and went home and napped, thankfully my office is insanley supportive and flexible. Also, I got some beef boulion and made that it quenched my desire food enough.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
