Has anyone else had this after a revision? I had my band removed Monday, and he did the sleeve at the same time. I was sent home yesterday with a picc line, and supplies were delivered last night so I can hook myself up to IV fluids for 14 hours at night. Surgeon says that this will allow my sleeve to heal with as little stress as possible. I am allowed sips of Water to get my crushed meds down, but other than that I cannot drink or eat anything for two weeks.

Just wondering if anyone else has had to do this? I certainly don't want a leak, so I am following his orders...just wanted to find out about other's experiences....

And was there a reason for this or is this just your Surgeons usual practice? Seems quite overboard.

I guess that's why most surgeons do it in 2 sessions. I would do exactly as he says, because you probably have a lot of swollen and scar tissue and he's concerned about a leak.

My surgeon did my revision in 2 sessions, and I had to wait 3 months between surgeries.

I went to Dr. Illan in Mexico and while I was there a patient had a lap band revision and sleeve done in one procedure and I just had the sleeve and we were both out and about drinking the same things and having chicken broth etc...

I am doing exactly what he said. I am pretty sure this is how he does things for everyone that gets the revision in one surgery. He did say I had a lot of scar tissue too.

I am nervous about doing this by myself, LOL. I have no medical background. They trained me yesterday on how to do everything, but I don't want to mess it up. I was able to disconnect from the bag this morning and flush the picc line all by myself. :-) the big challenge comes tonight when I have to hook it all up myself. They sent someone last night to do it and show me how, but tonight I am on my own.

You might want to see if he will right an order for a home health nurse to help you if you are afraid to do this by yourself. I would ask him about it. Do you know any nurses they might help you out until you feel comfortable doing it yourself. Wish you the best in your recovery.

You'll be fine, you can do more than you think you can. We had to do all sorts of home health stuff when my son had cancer. I bet there are some videos on Youtube that will show you, too, if you want to watch some today.

I had a removal of my lap band and revision to a sleeve all done at one time. I had a barium swallow done the next day and started on liquids. I am following the same diet protocol as a new sleeve patient without lap band removal. I am sorry to hear that you are unable to drink anything for 2 weeks. Kudos for listening to your surgeon and finding the strength to follow his directions. Hang in there.... sending good thought your way!!!!

I had my band removed and sleeve done on 1/27/14, put on liquids for two weeks and have been on mushies for the last week. I still dont get as much liquids or Protein as I should but keep trying. Hang in there, follow the doctors orders, your going to do great.

The picc line came out last Thursday, and I did clear liquids until today. I was cleared today to move on to full liquids. I am doing great, and the picc line wasn't as bad as I feared. It was more inconvenient than anything. I do believe it helped make my recovery easier, because I didn't have to worry about getting in my fluids and protien those first few weeks.
