Surg 4-17 at Barnes West (St. Louis)

Recommended Posts

I am having surgery on the 17th of April in St. Louis at Barnes by Dr. Halpin. I am a little nervous, also having a hernia repair done the same time. Any suggestions or comments will be appreciated. I am female, 43 and have 150 or so pounds to lose. From what little I have read it looks like everyone is successful, but find it very overwhelming not knowing what to read first.

Thanks,

Jane

Hi Jane, there is a strong and active April 2007 group going!! I think the thread is April 2007 Head into Spring---or something along those lines. If you search April you should be able to find it! They are an amazing group---and have already got one of the best support teams around!!! I am part of a similar thread from April of 06. We are doing our best to mentor them a bit and get them off to a wonderful band life begining!!!

Hang out, if you have trouble finding the thread---just let me know. I know they would be thrilled to have you join them. It is a great comfort having a group who are all about the same point you are, in diets, and exercise abilities. I have appreciated my group more than I ever thought I would!

Welcome- and good luck on your surgery, I hope it is smooth sailing!!!

Kat

Hi Jane, my name is Jennifer and I'm b eing banded April13 at DePaul by Dr. de la Torre. My friends brother had his rny done at Barnes and is doing fine. So I know you'll be ok there.

Weightloss Centger at DePaul has a great support group that meets 1&3 Wed of the month. Lots of info guess speakers and oh yes, we even have the hospital's exceutive chef come in and make a meal for us. My first meeting with the group we did taste test making smothies and shakes.

I you like to keep in touch and let me know how you are doing.

Hey Jane,

I too plan to have my WLS done at Barnes by Dr. Halpin or Dr. Eagon.

I've just started the process, and am getting all of my pre-op appointments taken care of. Please let me know how you like them, and how your experience has gone/goes.

How long did it take from your meeting with the surgeon, till you got a date?

Thanks!!

Good luck to you!!!

Everything went great for me! I am very happy with Dr. Halpin, and I have met Dr. Eagon and he seems very nice also. I have no complaints, it was scary for me going into it, but looking back it was really nothing!!

Are you going through the Washington University Program? I am still researching it but it looks like the best on paper, and it is close to work, home etc. so not hard to go to support groups, appointments, etc. any suggestions, help, etc. would be appreciated.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
