I feel like I am able to eat more than I should. Did I stretch it?

Recommended Posts

I feel like I'm able to eat more than I should be eating. I am a year out, and I can eat more than 8-10 bites of food. If I did stretch the stomach out, how do I get it smaller without another surgery?

Any ideas??

I'd suggest going in for a fill if you feel you're eating too much, and not feeling satisfied. That's the great thing about the band, it's adjustable :)

I don't think 10 bites of food are equivalent to the amount you are supposed to eat. Why are you measuring by bites and not by a cup.

MandaMom, I had the sleeve, not the band.

Cheryl, I've never measured anything by the cup. In fact, I don't even remember seeing any kind of measurements for post-surgery. I have just been eating until I was full, which at first was about 6-8 bites, and now is about 10.

I will have to look for my paperwork to see if I totally missed that.

Thank you.

Oh, sorry!! I just saw in your profile Lap-Band surgery, and you posted in the lap band Q & A's! :) That answers why you aren't going in for an adjustment!

Take care! I hope you get things figured out, and your pouch is not stretched!

I know for myself I have good days and bad days. A good day is when I can eat my 3meals without getting stuck. A bad day is when I do not eat enough Protein and graze all day.

I have a 14cc band and only have 7.25 cc in. Some days I feel it is just right other days I feel to tight. It is amazing how we are all so Different and how we all react to our own situations.

I would kill for a chef salad but that doesn't work for me.

I started this new life time journey at a bouncing 285 now at 154 So along the way many things have changed.

Hi Carriecat,

If you are sleeved, your in the wrong forum and your profile also says you had the lapband so your getting conflicting info...the band and sleeve are very different.

Oops just posted as you did carriecat :) Good luck and I hope it all works out well!!

It all depends upon your history....you have to be consistent...or the band should be performing consistently for some time before you can recognize any real differences, and what they may be....

I have been consistent for 2-1/2 years now, and have not had, nor needed a fill in all that time...I know I am finished with the adjustment phase and do not need any more fills, thoroughly within the Green Zone..

....I know the ups and downs of gaining and loosing the same 5 lbs....I recognize and expect the band to be tighter certain times of the day...

I also know, from what transpires day after day all that time, how much the band allows to me eat at any one time, again I expect changes throughout the day, and by what kinds of food I'm eating....

As an example...my band is always the tightest in the morning, and I have not eaten a solid Breakfast in over 2 years...if I were to go out for Breakfast tomorrow with friends, and ate an omelet with little to no feedback from my band, I would immediately take notice....

Everyone is different, and everyone needs to learn all about their band...and how to listen to it...

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
