Hi there!

Can someone please help me out as to what it would be like being on the pre op diet and having 2 Protein shakes a day? Can you have pureed Soup or only liquids? I'm preparing myself for the next few weeks which I have to admit I worked hard to come too.

Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Newbie. Congrats on your upcoming surgery. Every doctor seems to have his or her own protocol for the pre and post op diet. My suggestion is to make your doctor work for the money she is being paid and get the instructions that she wants you to follow. Some people can have pureed Soup, some only broth, some even get a meal. Depends on what their doctor prescribed. Just make sure you follow the instructions of your doctor. Good luck!

My surgeon gave me an exact list of what I was allowed to have. The only Soup I could have was Tomato Soup and it counted as a juice for the day. Did they give you a print out or anything yet? If not, I'd call and ask them to email it to you.

Be sure to follow their directions. Every doctor is different.

It all depends on what your surgeon requires. I had to drink 2 shakes and have 2 bars (both provided by my dr's office), and I could have one small meal a day with just 3oz lean Protein, and unlimited veggies that were listed in my directions.

Good luck to you!

I am not going to lie let's start by saying what most people have said ask your doc for the pre op diet he/she wants to give you and follow that , also ask for the post op diet he/she wants you to have , ok HERE it goes it is hard and you will want to eat and feel like your starving and can't get enough DRINK LOTS OF Water, to try and keep full it does get better though before you know it you are banded then it will feels like your starving again , but don't try to do to much right away after surgery as you just had major surgery , it really does get better , but do try to walk around your house so you can get the air out , don't be scared I am not trying to scare you I am just trying to help cause they don't tell you that you want to bite every bodies head off from feeling like your starving , get someone to help you if you have children to make meals because just the thought of smelling food made my stomach growl and yes I would cry cause I wanted to eat food , but couldn't for the first few days , then when it came time for y mushies I was so happy I still wanted food but I stuck with my sf Jello and sf pudding and even froze some pudding so I could eat it like a popsicle , well good luck on your journey.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
