Day One of the Pre-Op Diet: An Emotional Ramble

Recommended Posts

I am on day 2 of my three week all liquid pre-op diet. Day one was really hard. If I had to do it over again I would have drank one more Protein shake mid-day. Today is a bit easier although I am having a hard time concentrating on my work and I feel tired. I am waiting for my body to adjust... hope it does soon! My surgery date is 2/10/2014. This is by far the hardest thing I have ever done in my life!! Must - stay - positive!! I CAN DO THIS!!

Listen the first few days were hard for me. But my doctor chose to put me on a high Protein, low carb, sugar free, low sodium diet. I got one meal a day so I suppose I am luckier in that. I can only imagine how DIFFICULT it must be to do all liquid so I have a lot of respect for you! You CAN do this! No matter what stay positive! And stay away from any post complaining about diet. It'll distract you! In a few days you will adjust, and cravings will slowly go away. :) you'll do great! We got this!

I understand how you feel. I am on day 9 of two week liquid diet. Today has been my hardest one. I had to find things to distract me. I think I will be alright now. I know you and I can get thru this it takes some work. Look at what is on the other side. My surgery is Monday. Please keep me informed on your progress. We need each other's support.

I'm just completing my 5th day of pre op all liquid diet. I have 16 more to go! Wow! It's been ok, but the first few days were over a long weekend and I just laid around and slept a lot! Today was back to work and it went ok. Everyone is supportive. Here's the catch... Dr. Required me to use Opti fast, I'm finding that I need to be near the bathroom after drinking it.! Not always, but often enough to strategically plan when I'm going to drink it! Surgery Feb 6.

Is Optifast sweetened with Splenda (aka sucralose)? I know that is a side effect for many people with that particular sweetener. They alter the sugar molecule so your body doesn't recognize it, but it can cause some digestive issues. You're past the first few days, which was the hardest part for me. Just keep your eyes on the prize and the big day will be here before you know it. :)

Sounds like you are doing AWESOME....I feel like the pre-op diet is a big test of our will....i also had the 2 week pre-op and it was hard but you make it through.

When I was ever in doubt or nervous as it drew closer to surgery I always remembered why I chose this route and what I wanted my outcome to be....and so far so good it is working and I am happy and feeling better about myself than I EVER have.

Good luck....you've got this....good luck come surgery day and be sure to let us know how you are doing!

Definitely. I am on day 5 of my pre-op diet. It's hard - being prepared is key. 1st 3 days were the worst - I'm all good now - surprisingly! Mind set is important and my mind is set on being good to me! :-)

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
