Looking for ideas for eating during endurance workouts

Hi everyone! I'm new to the site and just had my gastric bypass done on Dec. 16th. Before surgery even though I am overweight I've been an avid road cyclist for almost 7 years. I know how to other people should fuel their rides, but I'm not so sure what I should eat.

I'm almost 4 weeks out and still on soft foods. Last Saturday I rode 20 miles and it was great to be out riding again, but when we stopped half way for a rest stop, all I could have was a glass of milk. I don't need a lot, but when I ride longer than 2 hours, I'll need to eat.

I have a friend I ride with that had her surgery 3years ago and we've talked, but I'm worried to try the things she uses and my nutritionist didn't know what to do with me.

I would love to hear any ideas. ????

Thanks,

Niki

I do not eat prior to exercise, I have ample fat stores to draw from. I finally said to hell with this, and quit Insanity and subbed in Xfit compound lift training and 1200 cals and lost 4 lbs in 6 days! I knew, in my gut (no pun intended) I always knew that cardio just doesn't do it for me. It may be fun, but it doesn't do *it* for my body. Unfortunately, due to my circumstances, getting wholesome foods is really tricky and if I were just eating I would barely clear 500 calories a day, so I am now drinking like 3 shakes a day, and I can't make them with milk because I can't do dairy :(

I did cardio every morning to BURN FAT...which in my case worked very well....had a Protein shake AFTER my workout....

But now, that my body fat % is very low - "Athletic", I have to take at least one shot of protein before heading to the gym....

It is controversial, here is one of many articles about it...remember, I'm talking about BURNING FAT as in weight loss....

To me it doesn't seem that controversial. I completely get it.

Have you read the book Slow Burn? Great book about a guy who ran 1100 miles in 10 days on low carbs. He teaches how to workout in the fat burning zone rather than the sugar burning zone so you don't need to eat a bunch of fuel. Excellent read...especially for those of us who don't want to load up on carbs because of blood sugar or digestive issues.
