Sleeve surgery with Dr Ponce de Leon on Jan 10th any pre advice?

Recommended Posts

Hi I leave for San Diego on the 9th and my surgery is scheduled for the 10th. What can I expect crossing the border, tests at the hospital, and general info about Mexico (never been there). I'm a little anxious about my surgery but am glad to be getting out of the deep freeze here in Canada haha. Will hate coming back to the cold!! Anything you forgot but wish you had? Or anything you were glad you brought? I'm by myself with a facilitator from the company I went with. No family or friends coming.

I have a friend who went to dr. Ponce de leon in November. She had a good experience with the doctor but the medical staff spoke no English. If you have an IPad you might want to download a translation AP to help you to communicate. I have always found it to be better to have someone with you in any hospital, American or otherwise. Everyone needs an advocate that will take care of their needs. Will the company facilitator be with you ? Good luck and hope you have a quick recovery to the surgery. Enjoy the sunshine and warm temps. I've heard some of the hospitals take you on day trips to the mall and to a few other places. Oh, someone did say the GasX was most important after surgery and the lip moisturizer helped a lot too. Again good luck to you.

Hi! I haven't been on here in awhile, but I had my surgery with dr. Ponce de leon on June 10th! No real complaints here! I have pics from the trip on my FB if you want to see them. I was a nervous wreck the whole time, but it was all fine and I'm down 75 lbs now. I'm here if you have any questions. 2 of my friends used Dr. Ponce also. Is trish your coordinator?

Hi! Glad to hear everything went well for you! I have the Canadian coordinator who is Debra. Was there a place for you to secure store your passport, purse when you had surgery? I have no family coming just a facilitator that Debra set me up with. Did you bring an iPad or anything? I know no Spanish other than thank you so I'm concerned about communicating with staff but I was told not to bring valuables so not sure I want to bring my iPad? Is crossing the border a big thing? ( I know...lol a crazy thing to be concerned about but I've never been to Mexico) I know I'll be in the hospital van but just wondered if it's fairly straight forward like crossing the American/Canadian border? Thanks for your time!

Hi, I will have a facilitator with me unfortunately I'm single and my parents are gone I have one brother and he and his family are not supportive of my decision. I didn't feel right asking any of my friends to come with me. I will definitely be enjoying the warm weather as windchill warnings are out in my area this weekend for -45 to -50C !!! Right now at 6pm it's -27 but with the wind feels like -38c! Good thing I have lots to do inside to get ready for my trip!!

I downloaded a translator app last night but I'm not sure if I'm taking my iPad.

Thanks for your reply!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
