7 weeks out and a fruit addict...

Recommended Posts

Which is not good cause its adding more carbs to my day than Protein... But pineapple is making my body sing with enjoyment (ate 5 small cubes of it over a four hour period yesterday) :(

I thought I was doing good on Protein but carbs (mostly from fruit) are still number one, apparently I am in the market for additional tweaking.

Is fruit the devil now? Should I be labeling it as just sugar and Water and not consuming it?

I love fruit as well, but pineapple is on my list of foods to avoid. I think because of both sugar and acidity

There's probably going to be a lot of people respond to this and disagree with me but I say go for it. Get your Protein in then have all the fruit you want. I personally did not fuss about my carbs too much - usually around 50G a day. But most of the carbs that I do eat are from fruits and veggies. I've taken the approach with this sleeve to eat as clean and natural as I can. So no artificial sweeteners or low fat foods. I figure with the fruits and veggies I get the nutrients too. Like I said, people will disagree but I'm 10 months out and 99 lbs down, 1 lb to goal. It's what has worked for me.

I think the article posted recently about the nutrition myths has it right: not all carbs are bad. If any food should be considered " bad" it would be refined, processed foods... Which one could argue isn't really food...think twinkies here.

That said, we can overheat any food, so I am kind of traditional in the sense that I think "moderation". Of course this hasn't been my fortee, thus this need for VSG. Seems reasonable to stick with protien first, Water and then Vegs and fruits.....

The acidity I think plays a role in why I like it so much haha even right out of surgery, orange juice went down easily

I think anyone that considers twinkies food might have a screw or two loose :P

I eat mostly raw Proteins, beef and fish. I find raw sits a lot easier on my sleeve where cooked Proteins (especially chicken) makes the discomfort come on fiercely and after only a bite.

I eat fruit everyday. Sugarfree applesauce, peaches in their own juices, or pears. It helps me stay sane. My Wellness doc said it's ok. Everything in moderation. 2 1/2 c. Servings won't kill you, but getting your Protein in is key. I know I'm a sugar addict and have to be very aware of what will trigger me to crave sweets. Peaches and applesauce are ok. I've done pineapple too, but not very often. Our goal should be to chew the hell out if everything lol so it doesn't hurt our tummies. When I don't and I eat unconsciously....I pay the price. Best wishes!

I'm not a sugar addict luckily (at least not food wise, beverages are a weak point) so sweet fruit doesn't make me want Cookies and cake. Actually I've found almost everything except fruit is too sweet these days and I Water (or milk) everything down. It's more breads and potatoes that can be my Achilles heel. It's a good thing that I've also been a protein kind of girl! Love meat haha

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
