Dr Watkins or Dr Curry in Cinti

Recommended Posts

I have been going back and forth on which doctor to go with...one thing I have noticed is that Dr Curry insurance lady knows her stuff and the people that I knew that went to him had to problem getting approved...but I know someone who went to Dr Watkins and said he is really nice person but that the people who did his insurance wasn't as up to date on how long to do the supervised diet because she found out from people at our job that she didn't have to do a 6 month supv diet.......I don't know what to do...Help.....

I chose Dr Watkins over Dr Curry. I went to the presentations and also had an initial consult with both of them. In my opinion, there is no comparison between the two. I never felt comfortable with Dr Curry. To me, there was just something off. I don't know, it could have been what I thought was his indifference to me. Almost like I was just another patient. In my opinion, not a lot of people skills. Dr Watkins to me was just the opposite. He was very patient with me and all my questions. I felt like he would have sat with me for as long as I needed to talk with him. His pre-surgery and post-surgery diet was strict compared to what you read on this site. He wants a 2 week 800 calorie pre-op liquid diet (You can have a salad once a day). Post surgery is 1 month of liquid diet, 1 month of puréed food, and 1 month of soft food. Dr Watkins also will fix a hiatal hernia (sorry for the spelling) whereas a lot of doctors don't. I had no issues with the insurance people. It took less than 2 weeks to get my insurance approval. Everyone in Dr Watkins' office were great.

In my opinion, if you haven't met with both doctors you should. Everyone should really choose a doctor after they have met them. What works for me might not work for someone else. Also, everyone's insurance is different. Mine required 3 months of a supervised diet, your's might not. Do your research. Don't rely on what people tell you.

Good luck in your journey. It was a lot of work but so worth it. Since July 14, 2013 I have lost 75 pounds. I have gone from a 22W down to size 14 pants, XXL tops to L tops. I'm not the fastest loser, but i am not disappointed. One week post surgery I stopped taking my blood pressure medicine per my doctor's instructions. My only regret is I didn't do this sooner. Best thing I have done for myself. Good luck.

If you know your insurance company requires a supervised diet you probably could start that diet before your consults. I knew my plan had this requirement so I was able to schedule my initial consult with my family doctor before I met with Dr Watkins. It just helped to speed up the process.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
