I have been recommended for my high Protein and liver shrinkage diet to go on the slimfast liquid diet. Has anyone else used the slim fast method?

Did your doctor recommend (do not think so). I do not think you will enjoy this, you will want more. Your doctor gives you a good diet to follow. Usually a shake and two sensible meals. We did a shake a day, and 1 meal, which was what we were used to. You need 1 meal a day to look forward to. A small grilled chicken breast is yummy! Treat yourself in small ways! Best wishes!

Linda, All pre op diets are different!! Each surgeon has different ways. We should be encouraging the op, not telling them they won't like what their doing. Never assume your program is how everyone else's is. Each is unique to what has worked long term for that group.

To the op,...my pre op diet was 5 shakes per day. That was it. No food. I could've used the high Protein slim fast, if it could be found. I stuck to pure Protein powder since it was easier to find for me. The slim fast high Protein Powder was and still is very difficult to find in my area. Do you have any other choices available to you besides that? If not, I would ask your nurse clinician.

My doctor lists the Slim Fast High Protein Shakes as one of the options, but I don't have high opinions of them because they are in the Weight Loss business and not the nutrition business. (My own personal opinion of course).

I chose to use another one on the list : Premier Protein that I get a BJs Warehouse. The cost was less than Ensure and each 11oz carton is 30g of Protein, 1g of Sugar and 160 calories.

I am still presurgery but following the pre-op diet at about 75% in order to lose the 14 pounds my doctor wanted.

I am amazed at that! I agree with you band. I like Premier Protein best of all, and the 30 g Protein. Walmart sells EAS Protein shakes, but only 17 g protein. Best of luck to you all!

I prefer unjury made with unsweetend original almond milk and premier Protein shakes.

Very high in Protein, low carbs and sugar and tastes so good.

I like premier Protein also. Im not on a pre op diet as of yet because my surgery is still a few months out, but I've started just replacing one to two meals a day with a Protein shake to kick start the weight loss I'll have to have before surgery.

I have heard great things about the Premier Protein shakes. I use Pro fit by Itworks.com it is a powder that offers 14g of Protein. Add in a few fruits and I have my meal. I am pre op still with no date yet. I jave been using this protein powder for about 3 months now. Love the taste. Good luck finding what works best for all of you. =)

I'm scheduled for the 7th of Jan.... my doc has advised me 1pc of either chicken or fish a day with Soups, green vegetables & skimmed milk/yoghurt. I did hear him say 'no' to natural sugars from fruits but not so sure! Could someone pls advice if natural fruits/juices are allowed on the pre-op diet. lunch, dinner isn't so much of a problem as Breakfast is! Any ideas on how to cope in the mornings? I don't get shakes, powders, etc where I live!

My husband and I were told no citrus/fruit. but due to his diabetes and low blood sugar on the diet, he was allowed the fruit to maintain his blood sugar during the nights. Check with your doctor.

My pre-op diet is 5 shakes ( I can sub a broth for one shake) and Water. I was given a list of the shakes to try and so far the slim fast Protein is the one I like best. I get mine from Amazon. I am going to try the Unjury unflavored and see what it is like in my broth.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
