United Healthcare and Medicaid in Baltimore. Finding a surgeon

Hi,

I'm Izzie. And I'm 21. I'm searching for a surgeon to do my gastric sleeve surgery. Who accepts UnitedHealth care through (PAC), which will later merge with Medicaid. Jan1st. I have everything already finished. The psych exam, nutritionist, documented weight loss attempts dating back to 2011, and documented problems due to obesity. My bmi is 56.5. I'm class 3 obesity. My original surgeon just told me they won't accept my new insurance. I planned to get my surgery in January. But now I'm left w/o a surgeon. Please help!

Hi Izzie,

Did you ever figure it out?

Yes . I just called Johns Hopkins and they told me that they accept the insurance

Good! I am currently in their system and went through all my requirements with them. Can you message me? I have some advice to maybe help you.

Hello! I'm a newbie here also with UHC Medicaid in Maryland. Can you fill me in on what you needed? When I called the ins Co the rep was rude and short with me so I didn't get any where with that. Any info is much appreciated. Good luck on your journey.

I have MD medicaid and I did 6 months nut visits, 1 psych eval, 1 cardio test, medical clearance and an online thing. I had my surgery 2/5/14 at WHC in DC and I am 41 lbs down..

Thank you for the info and congrats to you!! I've read on myuhc.com that it's 1 year for the nut visits, but it may be old info. I'll try calling again for more clarity. I hope it is just 6 months. :-)

Calling UHC and getting it in writing is the best way to go. I had issue with my doctor's office not believing me because I have so few requirements. I had to get it in writing so they would believe me. I have UHC Choice Plus and I am only required to have bmi over 40 and bariatric center of excellence. I do not have to do a 6 month diet, psych eval, or six months of nursing phone calls from Optum. The requirements are chosen by your employer. Good luck on your journey.
