You too, Nona! xo

Hello brand new poster here! Just paid my deposit and booked my flight to San Diego

Surgery date: March 28th

Dr Garcia

Mi Doctor

Getting excited.. Nervous but excited! Anyone else have surgery around that time with the same doc?

I am going to have surgery on 28th with Dr. Garcia at the Mi hospital. With the same doc. My mother in law had him last year - I came with her I am bummed I didn't have surgery then.

This is the very best thing I've ever done for myself. I've always made sure everyone else had what they needed or wanted, but I decided it was my turn. Had a wonderful experience. Dr. Ponce did my surgery. I was at Hospital Jersalem. I was a little afraid at first. However, the staff there is wonderful and then you begin to meet friends. I went all the way from Mississippi alone. I had no problems. In fact I hated to leave. My coordinator was amazing. The doctors went above and beyond caregiving. I have nothing bad to say. I hope everyone else has the same experience. If you have questions, like i did, I'll be more than happy to help ease your mind. Good Luck!

I was sleeved on March 11. I am 12 days post-op and doing well. My energy level is low, but I expected that after having a major surgery. I am down 23.5 pounds from the time I started the pre-op diet.

Hi March sleevers! Had my surgery Monday and leaving for home tomorrow yay! Feel really good today very little pain. We had an awesome outing today. Raul drove us to the markets. Had a blast walking around and buying touristy things for the kids. He also drove us around the slummy side and the rich side of town. Then had Soup with my new friends I made in the marriott restaurant. Was a lovely day and I met some incredible people this week. What an amazing experience. I'm much stronger than I thought and this has inspired me to change other things in my life. My mother also came with me and she was incredibly against the surgery but she gets it now because she lived through it with me. We really bonded.

Some quick advice/info for those about to go and going to Mi Doctor Hospital in Tijuana:

You will have 5 incisions not 1 with Dr Lopez. I was under the impression this would be a 1 incision surgery from the Mexico bariatric center website.

If you have small veins expect to be poked many times before they can find a good vein. I have tiny veins and was poked 5 times each time (had 2 diff IVs because one went bad after first night) before they got one.

The hospital rooms are very noisy! You hear car horns beeping day and night. The drivers in Mexico use their horns like crazy. Bring earplugs.

The hospital rooms are also bright even when all lights are off. The blinds in my room didn't cover the full window. Bring a sleep mask. I bought one and then forgot it at home. So bummed!

Expect a lot of waiting. When they say 5 minutes it means 30. When they say an hour it means 2 hours. It was annoying as hell at first but I got used to it.

Bring slippers or warm socks as hospital doesn't provide them.

The first 24 hours are hard but it gets so much better every day. Just hang in there. It's so worth it and you will be amazed at how fast you heel.

The drain is awful. It's so annoying and Dr Lopez insists on keeping it in for 4 days which SUCKS. I was chatting with Dr Cabrera patients and they got theirs removed after 2 days. Jealous! It's better safe than sorry but lord that drain was so uncomfortable. Also, I read horror stories of how painful it is having the drain removed but I'm happy to report it was literally 3 seconds and I felt some pressure and then it was done. No pain. So easy!

I used my heating pad to warm up as the hospital was freezing the first day when we arrived at 7:30am. It wasn't until hours later a nurse told me I actually had a heater in the room.

The hotel is awesome! Not anything fancy but comfy. Staff is so friendly. The beds and pillows are the best. And there are a few English channels on with shows on like 2 and a half men, Big Bang theory, and CSI.

Can't think of anything else for now. Just know that you will be okay and this is an amazing journey you are about to embark on! I'm so excited for all of you!!! Yaaaayyyyyy!!!!

I just had my surgery on 3/15, Dr Ortiz at Mi hospital and your description is right on!! I'm originally from NYC so barely noticed the notice outside lol. Kits worth mentioning the great privacy. The hospital rooms have their own bathroom, very clean and an extra bed for your companion. For the drain. You are correct to come off is a weird pressure for about 3 seconds. I personally didn't notice its presence until it was gone. The recovery process is amazing. But you do have to take little walks, makes a world if difference. I had same experience with the IV, 2 because one went bad and the first time took 3 tries. However I have a history of this issue, have a small and playful veins that love to high.

This was an amazing experience. Nothing to fear! The leak test was the worst for me bc the liquid is awful.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well. I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening. So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this?? Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
