Weight loss disappointment

Recommended Posts

I am down about 58 lbs since my surgery on 3/28/13. I have always been a slow loser but have been told by my surgeon that "most" people lose more. Needless to say, I am very disappointed. I am down 4 sizes and thought that was awesome, but I am anxious to hear if anyone else has the issue of slow weight loss.

Four sizes is great! As long as you are pleased with your progress, keep doing what you are doing. If you want to step up the weight loss, do more...

Now, I say this and I have NO idea what you're actually doing. But it is true that some people lose quickly and some lose slowly. As long as your percentage of weight lost is what you are comfortable with, it's all good.

I have a friend who was sleeved in June and she has lost about 50 pounds. She is at the point where she doesn't want to go back to the surgeon's office for her 6 month appt because she feels that she gets crap about her "slow rate" of loss. Every pound between about 215 and her current 209 has been extremely hard-won and she has been very careful about what she eats and exercises 5 or 6 days a week.

Longwinded way of saying we are all different and some people do not fit into a cookie cutter.

Some things we may need to know to assist:

What was your starting weight?

How much do you have to lose in total?

What/how much are you eating?

Do you exercise?

Then we may be able to help you jumpstart your progress.

Down 4 sizes IS awesome! You've done well. Over 6 pounds a month is a nice steady loss, especially considering you are losing inches. If your eating/vitamins, exercise, and Water drinking are in place you are on your way. Check your thyroid but don't worry.

well, you gotta ask yourself, could you have lost those 58 pounds by now without the operation? Not only that but you will continue to lose more weight with the sleeve op, while had you had reached this far without the operation you would have had the risk of falling off the wagon and gaining it all back in no time.

If the answer to the question is no, then I would be really happy with yourself. You already made a change in your life, and it looks like it will only get better. I can't wait until I hit 58 pounds (hope it happens haha).

I just now am looking at BariatricPal.... will have surgery in Feb. (waiting for ins.).

I am so torn between bypass and sleeve... am ok-ed by Dr. for either.

I THINK I would be ok with 50 lb reduction (from current 230) but am not the most disciplined female. 60 yrs old.

Any advice ? Thanks :)

Lynda, this is such a highly personal decision.

However, given that I was around your weight I can say that my surgeon felt the bypass was too drastic. I could lose up to 100 pounds and still be in the normal range, but ultimately my choices were between the lap band and the sleeve. I am happy with the sleeve.

I have to say yes I too am loosing weight way too slow. I'm a year post and lost only 70lbs compared to when I was banded. It seems so much harder and stressing more wondering what am I doing wrong. I am very open to any suggestions anyone has I can't seem to get off this 238 with a goal of getting to 180

I want to thank Texas for reminding me of sparks. I logged back in and started my goals over with a new food plan and exercise plan.. I see there are extra things on the site that was not there before. I found a starting place again I feel I can get over this darn hump now

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
