Question About Belching

Recommended Posts

Okay when I eat I feel full I stop. About two hours later I get the the mother of all burps. Does that mean all the food is thru the band? Anyone else get this. I never belched like this before the band.

I am not sure. A lot of people get a bur o when they are through eating. I a men that is there soft warning to stop. I am not sure what the belching later means. Others might know! If not, that would be a good question to ask your surgeon or nutritionist..Hope that we all get an answer. Karen..aka..kll724

IMHO unless you are overeating, the food should pass through the band fairly quickly. The current theory is that satiation comes from the increased pressure on the vagus nerve as food passes through the band, not from food sitting in the stoma above the band.

Burping is going to be different than how it used to be. I rarely ever burp, but when I do it sounds as though it is coming from the bottom of a 55 gallon drum. I think the stoma is acting as a megaphone :D

Are you newly banded? Sometimes it's a result of gas that's still trapped inside, but I am going to hazard the guess that it's more likely a result of digestion.

When we digest some foods that are high in Protein and/or have lots of whey, milk/dairy Proteins they can release a gas that can be trapped for a bit as the food moves through your stomach to your intestines to complete digestion.

The same can be true for some fibrous matter like green leafy vegetables.

I had a bit of that just after banding about 2-3 months after, I added a probiotic to my daily Vitamins and if I have any type of Protein Bar, with whey or dairy Protein I take a lactaid and that pretty much stemmed the burping.

Always let your Dr. know and ask their advice before adding supplements or making any changes to your diet plan.

That makes sense. Every meal I have has Protein and I've made all kinds of Beans a staple (like my new mashed potato) I also have 1/2 a Protein Bar for Breakfast.< /p>

I am also concerned with this problem. I was banded 11/26/2012 and am just now burping really loud and long after eating and drinking anything. I can even burp myself if I bend to the left or bend over. I feel very bloated like I need to burp and will bend over or lean to the left to burp. I usually feel better relief after this. Is this normal?

I'm glad you asked because I've been experiencing the same thing. I call it my plumbing, lol. I eat, I walk around for a bit, then flush out comes super belch. Hahaaaa! No pain just silly noise.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
