Anyone Have The Sleeve Done In Houston, Tx By Dr. Robert Davis @ The Davis Clinic @ Memorial City Hospital?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm brand new here. Live in Houston, Tx. I have my first appt with Dr. Robert Davis on 12/16/13. I want to have the sleeve. Can anyone tell me what their experiences were/are with The Davis Clinic? How long does the process take from 1st appt till surgery? What pre-surgery requirements does he have? Thanks everyone!

I'm in Houston, but not at the Davis Clinic. I am doing the New Start Program at Memorial Hermann-Memorial City with Dr. Ricardo Bonnor.

Dr. Robert Davis of The Davis Clinic in Houston, Tx performed my sleeve surgery in Oct. 2012. He did a wonderful job. His staff is very nice, knowledgable, and they were sure to answer all of my questions, before, during, and after my experience. He also works out of Memorial Herman Memorial City, which is a center for excellence when it comes to bariactric surgery (the staff there was also great). I had some unforseen complications after surgery, which required me to return to the hospital for some additional weeks. Dr. Davis, and his staff, were very attentive, and have always been very patient. I'm very happy I chose him. He had a great bedside manner, not just with me, but was also very pleasant to my mom who stayed at the hospital with me. To this day, when I go to my follow-up appts, Dr. Davis remembers me, what I experienced, and asks about my mom (who lives out of state). That's important to me, because I never want to be just another patient.

As for the process and getting my surgery date, it only took about three months. But this also depends on your keeping your appts, as well as the insurance requirements. Their office does require psych eval (which is onsite), meeting with nutritionist, and they do additional tests if you have sleep apnea, etc. In addition, if your insurance requires additional info, that has to be resubmitted. So the time from first appt to surgery can vary depending on each persons circumstances.

Dr. Garth Davis did my VSG December 29, 2014, and I love him! I had mine at Memorial Hermann right by his office, and they were great too. I started the process in July and was approved in early December - his staff takes care of arranging everything you need to get approved. They did not always keep me in the loop, so I was left wondering what was going on sometimes, but they really were on top of it. :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
