February Surgeries

Recommended Posts

You and I clearly are feeling the same way. I am exactly a week behind you and am having my op 2 weeks today on the 10th. I really hope you keep in touch because you will always be a week more experienced than me.

I can see you live in Florida and we had 8 nights in Key West from New Year's Day. I was so sad on that holiday because everything seemed like a "goodbye". The flights also worried me because we often go so much further and I really don't know how they will work out. We have only been able to postpone our trip to Hawaii until May otherwise we would have to pay anyway. We are used to these journeys but that is pre bypass.

We have a lot to look forward to, we just need to get through this major transition and hurdle. We will do it! In many ways I wish I was next week now too and I will be following any posts you make with huge interest. I really will be thinking of you next Monday and hoping it all goes really really well, and I am sure that it will.

Take care and just get through the next week the best way you can, it will soon be over

Feeling a little put off today they cancelled my surgery date of the 10th and rebooked it for the 28th I was so looking forward to being done soon enough! I shouldn't complain too much as it's only a couple more weeks :s

I know how you feel. I was changed from 1-28 to 3-17. Just keep reminding yourself of the big picture :)

Thanks I'm trying to stay positive it just wasn't the news I was expecting or wanted to hear . But the wait will still be worth it all in the end

Well...I hit my first problem with my insurance company!! I guess I thought all this stuff was taken care of between the drs office and the ins. Company....well...I guess not!! My ins. Company has now requested my weight for the last 5 years...not a big deal except...my surgery is next Tuesday and my multiple drs are located in tulsa and I now live in NY!!

Deep breaths...it will all work out!

not sure what your ins. Procedure is, but mine required all info and testing completed before approval. My surgeon submitted a guesstimate for the surgery until it was approved. I'm sure once they receive all your info you will get your approval.

Are you on fb? It would be great to add you there. I update there a lot. My name is Erin Joleen Anderson.

I look forward to keeping up with you during this journey too. I think your flights will be fine. You're going to love traveling with a new, healthier body!

How much do you have to lose?

So sorry to you that have had a change in date. Although it's just 2 weeks, I understand the frustration! It takes a lot of time to plan for a surgery like this from work, kids, personal stuff, help, etc. Sucks to go through, but like the others said, will be worth it in the long run.

I was scheduled to have surgery last Tuesday and found on the day before that it wasn't happening. I'm now scheduled for 2/3 and still waiting for final confirmation. Meet with me doc tomorrow morning for pre-op so hopefully they can say all is ok for sure!

Hi Erin,

Right I have found you on Facebook and have sent you a friend request. My name is Claire Chambers and i am always a bit confused about what is a personal message on fb and what is visible to everyone. My excess weight is 224 pounds so I hope i am being realistic in wanting to lose about 140 pounds. How about you, much less I am sure by your BMI?

How are you feeling now? A little less worried or a little more? For me, I think I just need to get it over with and then the positive stuff can start as well. I do really appreciate your honesty because it is so good to know that I am not the only one who is not feeling over the moon about having to make this decision. It is the right thing to do but I am feeling so well now and don't really want to do anything to change that balance (after the recuperation period that is). The pre op diet is fine though and in 2 weeks I will be over the immediate post op period. For you that is only in a week's time!

Take care

Claire,

I have about 90 pounds to lose. I am hoping I at least lose 75. I am a revision patient. I had the lap band a few years ago and had to have it removed due to severe complications. My Dr said that RNY is my only option now due to all the damage, so I can't get the sleeve. It's been a year since I had my band out. I can't wait for my surgery but I've been eating a lot of really bad food and it's hard for me to let go of it. It truly is.

Kimr thanks yes it's only two weeks and I feel a bit better about it today then I did yesterday but it's a lot of re-planning :s I think the thing that put me off the most is I was out on a 3 week liquid diet which consists of prescribed shakes which isn't covered by Ohip:s so it's 100$ per week out of my pocket and I used up a week of them for nothing ..... However I have been in touch with the dietician and they said just do a low carb high Protein for the first week and finish the last two weeks with the shakes so it made me feel a little better knowing I don't have to spend any more money on the shakes . So fingers crossed it doesn't get changed again I am looking forward to this new life and new me :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
