February Surgeries

Recommended Posts

So has it hit you guys yet?

My friend just asked if I was anxious and I'm surprisingly calm. But of course it hasn't hit me. Surgery day will be here before we know it :)

I am nervous and excited at the same time. I can't even imagine how I will feel when it gets closer to my surgery date. I meet with the surgeon tomorrow. I hope to find out my actual date for surgery. You are right it will be here before we know it.

Good luck with your surgery Cherryhair. I am hoping to have my surgery about 2 weeks after your surgery. It will be nice to talk to someone who is going through the process at the same time.

I agree it just seems like it's taking so long for the holiday season to come and go-never wished for that before since I'll be on vacation but I really want to get this surgery done.

When the holiday season is over 1/29 will be here quickly. Are you required to lose weight prior to surgery? I need to lose 15 pounds.

I'm not required to lose any weight. I gained about 10 lbs in the last 2 months. I've been overeating saying goodbye to all my favorites. I feel so bad physically. I have to stop. I'll wait to a couple days before my 1 week liquid diet to have some more food goodbye parties.

Autumn, you may even get a January date, unless your surgeon is too busy. I don't even meet my surgeon until Feb. 4th, but I've met everyone else in the process, done all of the pre exam stuff, found out I have sleep apnea and now have a cpap. So I have a huge number of co-morbidities. I am hoping for a Feb. 20th surgery date. They will submit to insurance on 2/4 or 2/5. I am having mine done at the mayo Clinic. Can't wait. But the holiday foods are getting me. My husband and I have been baking goodies for customers for the past two weeks and it has been horrible. I keep sampling "can't give customers something, we haven't tried" I can't wait until that stuff makes me sick and I don't want it any more.

Hi ReaRaes, I still need to do a sleep study....they did not require one prior to submitting to insurance....I have one scheduled in mid January....they require if I need a cpap machine that I take it with me to the hospital. I also have my endoscopy scheduled in January...I am so excited about this journey. It must be hard baking all of the goodies for your customers. Just think how different we will look and feel at this time next year. Please keep me posted on you progress.

My surgery is scheduled for February 3rd. I had a band and it had to be removed due to terrible complications. I've gained half the weight back in the last year that it's been out. My doctor suggested RNY over the sleeve due to my previous complications. I'm nervous because they say if you've had a band you lose weight slower but I'm excited to have the bypass. I don't understand the logic behind losing slower because I've had a band in the past so I am hoping to prove the naysayers wrong! :)

I will Autumn, it has been hell the last week. Today I was good in that I didn't touch a single treat, was very tempted though. Can't wait until Christmas and I can send it all away with the college students that are coming for dinner. Come Thursday it's completely back to good eating and exercising. I haven't had time lately, I 've come home from work and immediately started working on Christmas stuff then went to bed. Today was my first day of not doing that stuff, but instead I spent it cleaning and moving furniture.

Hi ReaRaes, I will get back to eating healthy and exercising on Thursday also. It is so hard because even after the holidays someone at work is always celebrating something....they Celebrate because it is Monday....they celebrate because it is Tuesday....they celebrate if it is Wednesday....it is just an excuse for us to have a luncheon and have cake. I will no longer partake in these celebrations. I will just wish them happy Monday, happy Tuesday, happy Wednesday and keep walking while enjoying my delicious Protein Shakes. Lol!

How did everyone do on the holiday? I'm single and my family is in another state, so I avoided the pitfalls.

I am going to be honest and tell you I've had "last supper syndrome" for a few weeks. Monday starts my high protein/low carb diet until January 20 when my liquid diet starts.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to. And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed. I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
