Hey! My date is the 6th, Im in my pre op diet right now..I did cheat and have a subway sandwich but I plan on finishing without cheating again, I have lost 13 pounds since I started my pre op on Nov 25th, in the beginning it was really hard my shakes were so gross but now I have been putting them in a blender and adding a banana (which my surgeon said I could) and they are much better!

Another Dec 9th person here. I started my pre-op diet a week ago and have lost 12 pounds so far. My pre-op diet is 3 Carnation Essentials sugar-free Instant Breakfast made with Smart Balance milk, 1 small fruit, 1 greek yogurt, and all the sugar-free Jello and popsicles and broth I want. I log in to myfitnesspal to record my food and exercise. My insurance Federal BC/BS made me do a 90 day precertification that involved monthly nutrition and nurse visits, a psych visit, a pulmonary visit, (I already have a CPAP) a stress test, support group meetings monthly, and a 4 week group nutritional program. I did not have a set weight loss goal to be approved, just that I had to comply with all those things. I did my surgical pretesting, and that went ok. My doctor requires no nicotine for 6 months, but since I'm a nonsmoker it wasn't a problem. for me. Also, no soda and no caffeine. We are not even allowed Decaf because there are traces of caffeine in it. I'm petrified I'll get a cold or something will happen to put the surgery on hold......... I am so ready for this. And yes, I did cheat, on Thanksgiving. I had 3 ounces of turkey, and a tablespoon of potato, cranberry, squash and stuffing. I went right back on the Protein drinks, and didn't have butter or gravy, so hoping I didn't sabotage myself. The no caffeine is the hardest for me. I'm so glad this group is here, it's been so helpful.

No soda??? Wow my diet says we can have soda but only diet and if we drink caffeine only use artificial sweetners...which to me is disgusting so i stay far away from it...but i agree this group is very very helpful i learn new things everyday...we are all in the same boat right now....and you know we got your back so keep us posted on your surgery i would love to know how the healing process went...

The no soda is supposedly because the carbonation can expand your stomach? And the no caffeine is because caffeine can apparently irritate the stomach lining where the incision was made. The no Decaf seems a bit extreme though. From reading the forums, it's obvious that each surgeon/practice has their own rules. I'm following mine now, it's a day by day thing. I don't want him to open me up and go-look, she had coffee last week, sew her back up till she's caffeine free. They did full drug test screening at the start of the program, and also at the preop. I figure they are just being very cautious.

Same here with my surgeon. no carbonated beverages of any kind, and no caffeine either. Clear liquids only the day before surgery.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
